As an American, having a car and the ability to travel across the country is symbolic of freedom and the American way. If they can curtail this or take it away, it sends a symbolic message to us that our freedom is gone.

It’s a way in typical government fashion to nudge people towards electric vehicles. Rather then investing heavily in improving green tech to make it competitive they drive up cost of the old fossil fuel tech.
The unspoken fact is our electric grid couldn’t handle even 1/4 of car owning citizens charging an EV. And without fossil fuels making electricity it couldn’t produce enough power to do it because as the technology currently stands solar and wind aren’t efficient enough

What they know is how to centralize and consolidate power. No gas means no cars. No cars means no mobility. No fossil fuels means we are all tied to a very unstable grid and if you protest, we cut off power to your whole city.
Think about the implications to eliminating cash and forcing us into electric cars. You go no where without permission. You buy nothing unless we allow it.

Back with Obama the progressives and greenies wanted high gas and electric bills to push people into electric cars and solar panels.
The problem with this right now is that you can't find an electric car. New ones are rare on the lot and are gone before they get to the lot.
So I think the real reason is they want to destroy the economy or cripple the economy to reduce our power and standing in this world. This goes beyond getting people into electric cars.
