It’s an excuse to defeat crime - he’s positioning the national guard to control civil unrest for when they drop the hammer on all of the DC political criminals.

You prefer the dirty and dangerous lawlessness of liberal cities?

It’s overkill. A guardsman is expensive and an unnecessary expense if we had politicians that were even mildly interested in running a good civilian police force.

The problem is liberals arent interested in doing that. Someone has to step in.

The other problem is the national guard is mostly incompetent. Ask any local or city official that's had them help during a disaster.

Those numbers are cooked. No one in their right mind believes that apples to apples crime is less today than in the past.

You think crime is worse now than 40-50 yrs ago? Or is it more plausible that everything is blown out of proportion now when a crime happens? We get 100s of social media videos/post about the crime, dozen of YouTube video and 30 national media outlets pushing the same topics. And it’s all instantaneous

You realize that those numbers not being accurate would indicate a global conspiracy, right?

Not a statewide or FBI or national conspiracy. A global conspiracy.

I would rather have an increased, permanent law enforcement group like state troopers or local police. The National Guard is not trained for basic police work. Standing around with guns will decrease street crime somewhat,
but again, they have no or very little police training.
I also don't get how Trump could deploy National Guard troops to other states. I thought that the governors controlled the NG. Unless, of course, Trump claims some kind of national emergency. I just don't like the slippery slope that this represents.

In some ways Í agree we should not “ have “ to send NG troops; but if not then what’s the answer?

I don't agree with sending NG to cities just to fight crime.

IF the crime wave is enabled by incompetent or seditious behavior of the city's 'civil servants' then I think it is OK, perhaps even necessary, to protect the US CITIZENs who live there - but I think that needs to be accompanied by a declaration pointing to the irresponsibility by the local government.

We are already too close to an unAmerican factor having gained control of too many of our big population areas - mostly by the dilution of the electoral process thru lax, or felonious, application of election procedures - and by alliances with anti-American forces. They are effectively in a state of rebellion against the very foundation of America.

Cannot allow that to continue festering.

Another yearning for the return to the free years of vaccine requirements, mandatory mask usage, and banned outdoor gatherings. Well except for certain “fiery but peaceful” provocateurs.

Remember when you folks were clamoring for jailing people who didn’t “social distance” properly? Who didn’t wear masks? People who were jailed for attending religious services??

Remember??

Did you miss the EOs 2 days ago?

Trump is openly attacking states' rights and promoting major federal expansion in traditional areas of state power.

Yeah - I saw them. I can never tell if Trump is playing politics or is being serious.
But I think there are legitimate concerns over federalism if he orders NG to Chicago, NY, or anywhere outside of DC in order to fight crime.

My concern isn't as much the policies or what may actually be implemented as much as the huge support those policies got from his rabid base.

Just like the literal socialism the administration keeps proposing and supporting, with the same sort of public support from the rabid base.

And yet they still improved the situation in DC.

Not only is he attacking states’ rights, but he’s attacking the principles of capitalism by interfering in the free market and favoring or penalizing certain enterprises based upon his own motives.

And, perhaps most egregiously, by taking a government stake in Intel.

Yes. I can remember a time when if a house got burglarized the cops would try to catch whoever did it.

Like most economists, the Trump administration is fighting the previous war.

I live just outside of St Louis and the 2021-2022 years for the city were bad. Roving gangs of teens causing trouble, petty and violent crime up, idiots in chargers and motorcycles racing on city streets. You get the idea.

The reality though is that has changed quite a bit the last couple of years. Whatever weird crime mania that happened post COVID has disappated and the city is back to where it was before. Not without crime of course but much better. If only the Cardinals could get their shite together we would be back…
