By losers, I mean the same group of consultants, strategists, and officials that controlled the party in the 90s and 2000s and gave us loss after loss after loss?

I am not saying you need people exactly like trump to take over after he leaves, but I do fear if the aggiehanks and the mickey goldmills retake control, the party is staring at lots of future election losses.

You can kiss goodbye the working class and the rustbelt if the party reverses trump's trade policy and you can kiss goodbye rural america if the party goes soft again on illegal immigration. Rural and industrial workers would go right back to voting for Ds, who they agree with on healthcare and taxes.

Trump needs to start grooming his successor. Someone who is both highly appealing to the working class like trump, and someone who can bring in other groups as well.

I will be very upset if the GOP reverts back to its 1992-2012 model. It would be a total disaster. Akin to LSU firing orgeron and going back to ground and pound.

Yes.

That's why for all the "dynasty" handwringing, if Pence or another appointed successor doesnt take the reins, it should be Donald Jr.

Absolutely. You have to get all the cancer and we’ve only carved out a smidgen of it.

“Worry” would imply that I think there’s a chance for a better option. Trump, warts and all, is a temporary interruption for business as usual, unfortunately. There are probably a few guys/gals (Cruz, for example) out there, but not enough to matter.

I’ve noticed over the last 10 or 20 years that the Republican members of Congress (for the most part) appear to be more intelligent than their Democratic Party counterparts. I would think that over time this would benefit them in some measure.

Very much.

A Republican Party led by Mittens and Sasse is not a party for me.

I’d like to see who the anti republican pro Trump supporters are going to vote for in future elections. Maybe we’ll see an increase of “libertarians” like we did circa 2010.

We just won’t vote. I’m tired of holding my nose and voting. I did it in 2008, and in 2012. I won’t do it again.

I'm just hoping Trump goes scorched earth as hes leaving and releases as much classified info to the public as possible..

Show the world how corrupt our government is and burn the house down behind you

Then people might realize that just because someone has an R next to their name, they might still be a huge piece of shite

The GOP is totally screwed after Trump. The media will crush everyone after he is gone because nobody else has the guts to stand up to them

It;s going to be interesting watching the future of the GOP.

For decades they branded themselves as the party of family values and fiscal responsibility. The Trump era has proven both of those are irrelevant to Republicans so what will their platform be going forward?

Right now the GOP's main platform is anti-immigration and as the demographics in the U.S. continue to change it doesn't bode well for the future of the party.

1) They never left. The only difference, and it's a big difference, is the man sitting in the Oval Office right now. Did Paul Ryan work for or against President Trump? Did No Name work for against Trump? Is Christopher Wray working for or against President Trump?

2) HHTM, I'm at least glad to see that you seem to understand NOW how ESSENTIAL it is that we have Donald Trump in the White House. About a year ago, you started a thread where you said maybe it would be better if President Trump stepped down after one term.

Do you admit now that you were wrong about that?
