Unfortunately, yes. And I hate that I support them.

Are you asking if I sent an email to someone who uses Google? And if so, are you suggesting that is what I meant by my question. If so, do you use Google products that YOU picked out to use?

Re You Tube ... look up.

Utilized a food delivery app? Are you saying Google writes all apps , or Google is used in all delivery apps? Instacart uses GoogleTagManager but the web site functions if you block it, including the javascript. Same for Googleapis.

And I/you can watch YouTube videos from within DuckDuckGo without actually going to YouTube.
And you use script/ad blockers.

So you use their products, you just frick them out of their dime while doing so?

No but I’m typing this on an Apple device and I’m ambivalent about that....

Apple censors for China again. This time removing two popular podcasting apps....

I feel ok about it too. They steal data of million of US citizens and get paid for selling (via ads) the data they steal.

Kinda sounds like something that should be illegal.

Apple has themselves in a bind ... I think. We'll see if the GOP has any. They've shown in the past they do not. They better do it before November, because nobody can say what will happen after that.

Google is pretty upfront about the fact that they track and collect data, and how they use it. As for google's ads on 3rd party sites, the site knows the policies and they should pass that information on to you in their own policy. Like TigerDroppings does in theirs.
quote:

We allow third-party companies to serve ads and/or collect certain information when you visit our website. These companies may collect and use, among other data, click stream information, browser type, time and date, and the subject of advertisements clicked or scrolled over by you.
quote:

Google is one of the third-parties with which we work. Google serves ads and collects certain user and site information. To learn more about how Google uses this information, please click on the following link: https://policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites

It's all laid out for you, hard to call that "stealing" to justify your own actions.

No, not quite.

Yes, constantly.

We have a Nest Thermostat, outdoor cam, and the doorbell. All now google products. Our company ditched the MS office ecosystem a few years for the majority of our employees (the knowledge workers like myself get to keep MS office) and went to Google docs/email. Our entire companies email system is now GMAIL based. We are a global company with 20Billon+ in revenue and all of our email is gmail based.

just find it hypocritical to see people post complaining about Google removing Winston Churchill from search pics, then use their products everyday, giving them revenue to keep doing the same thing OVER and OVER. THAT IS THE POINT!

A more productive thread would be to start with your post about alternatives, where to find them, tips and tricks, etc.

Instead of a gotcha, y'all are hypocrites tone.

Maybe we could get a PT Tech Thread going for alternative options. Most people probably don't realize there are other options. While not perfect (eliminating Google 100%) it is progress.

Personally, I have started using Outlook for email, Onedrive for cloud storage/office, and Brave/Duckduckgo for browsing/search. I also have a proton mail account setup but haven't started using it.

Been using Android phones since day 1, likely will switch to iPhone when it is time. I finally got an iPad last year and the OS and ecosystem are growing on me.

YouTube and gmaps will be the hardest to get rid of. I suppose I could create a new clean account just for YouTube. Maps has too much invested (2000+ places marked) and is too good a product to abandon. Which kinda sucks because GPS/maps is the easiest way to be tracked.

Any alternatives to Google maps? I know apple maps was horrible initially but has made gains. Waze is owned by Google so that doesn't help anything.

Eta: Also use a pixelbook go which I just bought so that kind of undermines everything else for the time being. I will probably buy a MacBook Air next go around.

Any recs for <$1000 laptops that are not Windows?

Amazon would be the real tough one to get out of your life.

Plenty of websites and content databases are run on AWS from third parties.

Essentially, you can buy hosting from XYZ and they are reselling Amazon products or using them as a client for your needs.

Use tons of google products, but stopped using Chrome.

I don’t know what all they actually track using Chrome, but it has the potential to track just about all input/output through it. So I switched browsers.
