Fair Enough. Yes, I do it on Conservative Boards after I see a "I hate Google" thread and then everybody keeps using Google. I do think it is hypocritical. Doesn't make good walking around sense to me.
There is a Tech Board. Sometimes there is a fine line between being here or there. I responded to a guy re VPN this past week. Looks like good info there. VPN
I'm actually not a big Apple fan. I have an iPhone and iPad. Got a 6s for $120 about two year ago. Don't need top of line. I use them as their Privacy Policies are better than Android, and it is not close. Apple maps is not as "good" but works for me. I'm holding off on Apple laptop and until they give in on touch screen. So, cannot help you there.

A more productive thread would be to start with your post about alternatives, where to find them, tips and tricks, etc.
Instead of a gotcha, y'all are hypocrites tone.

As you stated, it is hard to get Facebook, Google and Amazon completely out of our lives. But, we can choose not to use their products... like buying from Amazon.

Amazon would be the real tough one to get out of your life.
Plenty of websites and content databases are run on AWS from third parties.
Essentially, you can buy hosting from XYZ and they are reselling Amazon products or using them as a client for your needs.

youtube's, far and away, the hardest part of google for me to avoid using. Here's an article on this subject that might be of help to anyone out there that wants to drop them.
How To Remove Google

Please. Google knows just about everything about you except how many times you fart per day ... they may know that if you have a Google Home. They "read" people's emails for years (even if you did not have an account - but received an email from someone who did). How does one opt out of that?
Yes, Websites tell you in their Privacy Policies what data they are going to steal from you, or let someone else steal from you. Most people don't read them. If they did, they wouldn't understand a lot of it. Like "and other technologies" What the he!! does that mean? They are an evil, anti-American company, and True Conservatives should not provide them revenue - by choice.

I prefer Android to Apple, and I love YouTube.
Google gives me services too great to use for me to turn down.

Do you honestly think that Apple doesn't collect and sell your information too? The latest update even increased their tracking capabilities due to "COVID."
Apple phones are much more restrictive than Androids. You cannot install an app on an iPhone unless you get it from their store. Google controls what is on their store, but you can still download apps from anywhere. Android is also open source, so you can download a third-party android-based OS to limit Google's control over your personal phone. I work with both iPhones and Androids, and iPhones just plain suck. Any problem I come cross will be with an iPhone 9 times out of 10.
I get not liking Google, but switching to Apple is not an improvement.

Instead of trying to shame everyone for using Google products help us find ways to avoid them. I use Firefox, DuckDuckGo, yahoo mail, iPhone, although Apple isn’t any better.

It's easy to use Android phones and set them to your liking.

Pathetic answer. You think it is ok for a third party Big Tech company to spy on someone who does not agree to the spying. And I guess you do not think that is Anti-American.
quote:
You keep using that word, but if they tell you that they will collect data if you continue using the service, and you choose to continue, it's not stealing.
So, in their Privacy statements almost ALL say that they allow third party trackers and you need to go and read those companies Privacy Policies too. And you think that someone should have to read four or five policies to do so to browse the so-called free Internet. It is stealing and it is pretty shameful that you think it is ok in the United States.
quote:is in the great majority of Privacy Policies. What is means is they do not want to be transparent and explain how those technologies steal their data. How would it sound to say 'we use cretio, doubleclick and other third part trackers who track you across the Internet and build databases about you so that we will know every aspect of your life, including financial and medical information".

LOL There is only so much room in a post. How about just recent stuff...

True, there are no Real Big tech companies who are pro-America. But, there are serious degrees of Anti-Americanism among them. At this time, Apple clearly is the least evil when it comes to US citizen Privacy and Security.

Apple is very specific in how they collect and use data. I've read their PP. You can restrict a lot of stuff and it have no impact on the use of the phone and what you normally want to do. Apple clearly has the best Privacy and Security on non-modified phones.
Most people that use Android do not have your tech skills. If they all did, I might agree with you on some of those points.

I guess my view on it is, if Google wants to pay someone to read my email and track my movements...go for it. I am happy to help them waste their money following my boring life.
I clicked OK when I accepted their terms of service. IF I was doing something on the internet that I didn't want to be "tracked" there are plenty of ways to prevent it. VPN & TOR Browser are the two that come immediately to mind.
There are hundreds of millions of people online constantly...they aren't tracking YOU for nefarious reasons, they are tracking your shopping and surfing habits so they can target advertising to you, that's all. No one, tech companies included, gives one shite about you emailing Aunt Jenny the latest Cinnamon Roll Recipe.

If I posted a DuckDuckGo post, it would be on page 50 in a day. So, yes I do use the shame approach to get some folks attention.
What got me started on this was seeing how many Republican politicians use Google products, then make statements about issues with them ... or just hind in their corners. In Alabama, the state GOP uses Google Maps, Google Calendar, and Google website tools. US CofC Republican House Rep Martha Roby uses Google's recaptcha, it goes on and on.
Apple is better for Privacy. You might want to read Yahoo's privacy Policy. They are worse than Google as they still scan your emails for content. There are not a lot of great email options, but Microsoft would be better than Google or Yahoo. if you only use webmail, Proton mail is a good option.
IMO Firefox, DDG and iPhones are the better options.
You might want to consider a VPN ... here are my thoughts ... VPNs
To greatly reduce tracking, you might install the following extensions ... Ghostery, Privacy Badger and if you are more technical Noscript (novices might not want to install).
Want to see how hard it is to block tracking: How bad is the tracking ...

You were doing fine until you got to here...
Would you be ok with someone coming up to your mailbox in front of your house, opening your mailbox and reading through your mail, then placing it back in the box?
So, if you are on your financial websites, do you really want them sharing anything about that? What if you have a terminal illness, do you really want them tracking your online research re that? This is the United States of America - NOT China. Our Founding Fathers fought and died for Liberty and Freedom. Having people, many of whom I would consider radical, track your life is not the American way - unless YOU want them to do it.
