I think defense spending should be approximately 1/6th of the budget.

Why not cut defense and most everything else 1-2% at a time. Sweeping changes create havoc.

Are taxes going up? We far outspend what we collect. The size of the government is the problem, but we don’t attack the problem. We get instant gratification by cutting taxes when we aren’t even paying the bills in the first place.

Ok, well do we get a check back for those of us who have paid untold sums into them and have never used them? Also, are we sure that the cost associated with ending those programs such as increses in homelessness, poverty, emergency room visits, cost of housing inmates won't really help fiscally? I hate waste so all for better administration, but I also have to look at reality. At least in 2018.

Abolish SS
Cut medicare and medicaid in half along with the military
End all government pension funds immediately
End congressional free health care for life
Cut corporate welfare to 0%
Abolish the Dept of education and end the WODs
Close every other agency that is wasteful

Billions saved

Everything but the navy.

We need to expand the navy to roughly double the combat ships we currently have.

Issue is really how we do government contracts. Spend more on current equipment and less on bullshite like the F35 and LCS program.

Also the Army can be halved. Why we need that many soldiers when we're surrounded by water is dumb.

I support cuts to spending paired with revisiting strategy. Scale the operations way back.

I also support reverting back to War Department instead of Department of Defense. Calling it defense makes it easier for people to justify the spending and nonstop wars in the name of "defense."

Cuts would be reasonable to discuss if they weren't just going to ruin people's lives by kicking them out - and that's what always happens with cuts.

For every dollar cut from military spending match it with 2 dollars cut from welfare programs and then we'll talk.

Why not for every $2 cut from military, $1 cut from welfare?

Or dollar for dollar.

Plus, military spending just got a $50 billion jump last year, so why don't we scale that back and start from there?

The more war toys you give them, the more Trump and Bolton will want to play war.

And there has not been any talk that I have seen about trying to get more bang for the buck out of the money we spend on the military. How much pure fat is there in a $700 billion annual military budget - $50b - $100b?

Russia spent $61 billion on defense in 2017, a 17% decline from the previous year. China's budget for 2018 is $175 billion, a 1.1% increase from 2017.
