There are people in jail for pot offenses and doing life, wake up, they went after drug dealers big time, and the local guys were the ones getting caught and doing major time, not the dealers selling the hard shite, or gun felons, etc.
it's called 3 strikes, and i believe Clinton with help of biden got it passed.
Decade ago, Missouri governor pardoned a guy, who had 3 felony(selling pot) arrests, and that 3rd was his 3rd strike, and life in jail.
he never was arrested for gun offenses, violence, etc. All pot offenses. pretty fricken stupid.

There was a guy....SE Louisiana.
He had 2 strikes, something like distribution of cocaine.
They caught him on his bike after he got out of prison with 2 joints.
They gave him 99 years.
I think he got released as part of Trump's drug law reform.

I don’t agree with the war on drugs. I’m just wondering why some have to lie about there being people locked up for life for possessing a plant.
Potheads are morally weak people.

John Knock made $200M from selling marijuana illegally. He laundered a bunch of money.
Allen Russell did more than eight years in prison on two home burglary charges and spent another two years in the clink after a conviction for unlawful possession of a firearm, according to the Mississippi Court of Appeals ruling.
Derek Harris’ prior convictions dated back to a 1991 conviction for dealing cocaine, according to court filings. He was subsequently convicted of simple robbery in 1992 and 1993, simple burglary in 1997 and theft under $500 in 2005

Cops use drug laws against gang bangers the way tax evasion was used against the mafia. They weren't after the mafia for tax avoidance, but that's what they could pin on them.

That is horse shite. No one is charged as a habitual offender over that scenario.

In 2022, don't care.
A felony is a serious thing.
If you are up to your 3rd felony, there is no place in civilized Society for you.
The good guys are out of "give a damn" for the bad guys.

Maybe coming down hard on the 2nd felony would work better - or even on the first one.
Coddling felons is how you get the breakdown of society we are suffering today.

1000 upvotes to you.
In 2022, the animals are in control of the zoo.
If you are on your THIRD FRICKING FELONY, there is no place for you in the world.

I don't know enough about it to form a coherent opinion. Because I'm aware that some of the people the media has touted as serving life in prison for weed, may have other charges attached to them that are more serious. But, because of the weed argument, all the other charges are ignored and only the lesser weed charge is discussed. I do have the ability to look a little deeper, but I don't care enough.
I do care about the very small percentage of prisoners who are being punished for crimes they didn't commit. Even if it's extremely rare, it's still chilling.

He was raised by his grandparents from the time he was a baby
Here's your real problems. Parents are checked out and disinterested in the child. Grandparents are old and tired. Nobody really raises the child, and he or she gets in trouble a lot.
We've all seen this. It sucks. I had a few girlfriends (no pics, long gone) like this. Dad was absent, mom had issues, grandparents "raised" them. It didn't last long, the instability was palpable.
I watch my ~70 parents spend the weekend with my sister's toddlers and they are absolutely spent by the end of day one. Grandparents are not meant to be full time parents.
I thank God my parents had the ability, sense, and work ethic to raise us properly or we would've gone down that path. We are all susceptible.
