We’d end up with another California that would be perpetually blue. There are some good Canadians, yes, but the majority of them are leftwing and in favor of socialism. No thank you.

You're not wrong, that would end up being a huge dim voting bloc.

wow, you weren't kidding..

Population
Canada 40.1 million
California 38.9 million

I figured more people lived in Canada.. perhaps we could make a deal with Canada..

No tariff's if they take California off our hands.

I'll take Alberta, Yukon, Northwest Territories, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, and British Columbia (minus Vancouver). 90% of the Canadian population lives with 150 miles of the US border.

They would need Washington and Oregon too.

The NE going too wouldn’t hurt my feelings.

You are correct. It’s 2 more blue senators and more blue reps than red. I’ve heard some opine that even the perception of Alberta’s “redness” may be off base.

Psssttt, we aren’t seriously considering adding Canada a state.

7 different US territories, maybe.

Canadians are about on the same level with Puerto Rico.

Nobody wants them as the 51st state (US or Canada). Its a negotiation tactic where at the end of the day US gets more of what we want and Canada tries to chalk it up as a win by saying "We showed them by not joining the US as the 51st state").

Same thing as Gulf of America. Trump just makes up a name for the Gulf (cost us nothing) and uses it as leverage to get more from Mexico. "Well Claudia, its 25% in tariffs. Help us protect the border and we will knock it down to 10% AND you can keep the Gulf of Mexico by name"

Both scenarios literally cost us nothing.

Reason that could offset that:

Countries ranked by Oil Production (bbl/day):

1. US - 13,401,000
2. Saudi Arabia (OPEC) - 10,815,700
3. Russia (OPEC+) - 10,750,000
4. Canada - 5,500,000
5. China - 4,715,000
6. Iraq (OPEC) - 4,162,000
7. Iran (OPEC) - 4,084,000
8. UAE (OPEC) - 3,770,000
9. Brazil (OPEC) - 3,630,000
10. Kuwait (OPEC) - 2,720,000

The only sensible way for the GOP to integrate Canada into the United States is to accept them by province. If Canada is added as a state in itself then you've added usually 2 Ds to the Senate and something like California's 43 D to 9 R in the House.

Breaking them up by Provinces offer opportunities for empty space to benefit the GOP in the lower and upper houses of the legislature. The general gameplan of conservative relevance in United States politics since its inception.

Well can we think about 51, 52, and 53?

Alberta
Saskatchewan
Manitoba?

Let’s at least look into it.

The markets were down. Then Trump made a deal with Mexico and the markets rebounded. News he still hasn't reached a deal with Canada and the markets still being up means one thing:

frick Canada.

If we're talking about something that could work in reality and not just partisan wet dreams:

You're going to have to admit the 10 provinces as states and the federal government takes their 3 territories which is really probably for the best because those are likely to become highly militarized zones for security against Chinese/Russian land assault from the Canadian Shield into North America and to maintain claims to exclusive economic zones along the arctic as the ice cap recedes.

I think for the most part the senate would end up splitting but the house would likely favor the democrats no matter what. However, keeping the Senate split is good enough for the GOP's goals of making the legislative branch only around to approve judges who then legislate on life terms from the bench.
