You think there would be a land invasion from northern/central Canada?

How in the hell did we even get to where Canada as a state of the United States is worth multiple threads on here?

He’s just fricking with them
I hope, for their sake, that they don’t make him shut down the flow of oil
They THINK this is bad
They need to commit to policing their border

It is the weakest security element to our otherwise great natural defenses. Partly because Canada simply lacks the state capacity to defend it and once Russia got on ground then they'd not meet too much resistance until near the US border. It isn't the greatest amphibious landing spot in the world but it is one that our enemies are uniquely climatized to handle.
Furthermore, there is an assumption of a lot mineral value up there that will become more exploitable in a warming Earth. Canada is not really able to adequately project their force to maintain claims to their exclusive economic zones up there.
I'm not a right-winger really but you can make a coherent geopolitical case for Canada to be integrated into the United States so the Northern reaches of their territory can be secured and economically exploited in a way they would not be able to do without US investment anyway. If we're going to arrive at a point where NORAD is all over their Northern territories and it is mainly US military operating the installations, then it might as well be the US.
The same sort of argument can be made for Greenland. Russia and China are going to have easier travels through the Arctic in the warming Earth, so Greenland starts becoming an important military chokepoint beside the fact it also has significant mineral resources to exploit.

We’d end up with another California that would be perpetually blue.

Canada missed their shot 250 years ago.
