That’s as stupid as the r/hermancainaward crowd.

Both are fricked up and without empathy because they feel they’re on a “team”

Look at the hate-object that's been made of Fauci by the populists during both administrations.

Well, he didn't exactly start off well (outright lying about masks) and he likely lied about his/our role in funding the very research that likely created this thing.

Medical populism (treating pandemic leaders as just another "elite" to demonize) is great grist for populist parties, but it sucks for public health.

The only geriatric the Left revered more than Fauci in 2020-2021 was RBG, dude. So I'll see your "medical populism" and raise you with "Bureacratic diety worship (where we pretend they're apolitical and non-partisan)"

Germany has half the per capita deaths. At US scale that would be >400k fewer deaths.

Did Germany do death certificate matching?

Did Germany count Covid deaths the same way?

Did Germany PCR test asymptomatic people?

The US response was indeed not great. But it's not really about whether Fauci was bad at his job. The response on the right wasn't to get rid of Fauci and put in someone more competent - it was to rail against people promoting the policies advocated by public health experts around the world - to literally shite on global public health expertise.

That great populist politics, but it kills extra folks.

Yeah we're not going to really have a grip on that data for a long time, also. The record keeping was not exactly orderly, efficient, or trustworthy.

You don't have to nit-pick the cause-of-death data. Go look at the all-cause mortality. Part of the reason for our terrible all-cause mortality is social strife caused by politicizing a global pandemic. Part of it is poor execution.

Again, good for populist politics, terrible for public health!

Most won't, and don't.

You're wading into autistic waters when you're taking comments and memes made on a message board so seriously that you'll put this much effort into pressing the matter. Once you realize most people here are just venting and don't want to live in a world where everyone who's been vaccinated has a heart attack and dies you'll calm down.

Either that or you're a concerned troll.

The stagflation the response is going to cause is going to kill plenty.

Hell, our young children are screwed. We may be facing a lost generation. Children lost IQ during the pandemic. Millions of kids who were at crucial developmental stages missed the development and were socially promoted.

Shutting down is costly (and it has/will cost lives).

This is ignoring the historic inflation we're experiencing. We're likely just facing Trump's inflation right now. Imagine what it's going to be in a couple years when we start to feel Biden's inflation.

Anyone who knows me would tell you it's much closer to autism.

The country by country data is so all over the map, I simply don't see how you can try to point to one versus another and possibly say, "see, they did so much better than ______ because of ..."

Not shutting shite down is a fantasy. Your policy shuts it down or the virus does. Or you do what? Turn away people from your health care systems during spikes? I don't think public order holds up in that case unless you're an authoritarian system.
