I don’t remember a Trump or any of his pundits discussing suffering and pain on the campaign trail.
I think it’s obvious they are just throwing shite against the wall and his MAGA followers are moving the goal posts. Now we’re being sold we all have to suffer for the greater good, like some Marxist bullshite.
Yea, frick all that

This is a losing game for him and Republicans that stand with him on these tariffs. The general public won't understand the trade war, but they do understand the market going down and prices going up. He should have tried to use incentives to bring business back, but he chose the punitive route.

The average American understands jobs and prosperity.

That’s the kind of stuff that cost Bush Senior his re-election.

I can help provide some context to why Vietnam wants to get tarrifs eliminated. Here’s part of an email we received from a major supplier of apparel:

quote:

Partners and friends, As you are no doubt aware, the White House announced reciprocal tariffs on April 2. These included a baseline 10% tariff on all imports, in addition to incremental tariffs on a country-by-country basis. This process is still playing out. Some countries are negotiating to lower tariffs while others are increasing their tariffs to match. While we will learn a lot more in the days ahead, I want to give you an idea of what to expect and how it might affect pricing. The new tariffs begin at 10% and go as high as 50% for countries that run significant trade imbalances with the United States. While our supply chain is diverse—we produce in 24 countries—all of our factory partners are affected by tariffs to some degree. This includes Vietnam (46%), Bangladesh (37%), Myanmar (44%), Madagascar (47%), Sri Lanka (44%) and China (34%). The reciprocal tariffs are stacked on top of any existing tariffs, meaning that the new tariffs on China are added to the 20% tariffs instituted earlier this year.

quote:

As soon as possible, we'll shift as much production as we can from high-tariff to low-tariff countries like Honduras, where we make most of our redacted and redacted t-shirts.

They’re going to lose their arse if they don’t. The email also discusses price increases that “will not be insignificant”.

That’s the problem with the IRA/401k system. Too many people are financially illiterate and don’t care and don’t educate themselves until they face a disruption and then they panic and make it worse.

My wife’s is straight Wellington/Wellesley like I said. I have most of mine in that too but I have some divided between Total Bond Market Index and a TIPS fund, Inflation-Protected Securities. At this point in my life I am going for a 53 bonds, 39 stocks, 8 cash ratio percentage wise, although I actually have my cash in a bond fund right now, Short-Term Investment-Grade Funds, taking a little bit of risk for hopefully better returns.

Right now, knock on wood, we’re riding it out, although I am hoping this all gets worked out sooner than later.

I’m not going to come here and lie to folks like so many posters do. I didn’t vote for Trump, although I had zero use for Harris really. I didn’t vote for him because his movement has become populist rather than conservative IMO, and populism has always scared me because it comes across as driven by emotions rather than rationality and thought.

But you know what? I am man enough to come here and risk flames and downvotes and say that he clearly, indisputably, without question won the election, and as such deserves a chance to try what he believes in and is committed to and clearly said he was going to do. And if he pulls it off, I will be standing up and cheering him and praising him to the heavens, because bottom line I want this country to be great and strong for my grandchildren. Anything else besides that is white noise.

And if he doesn’t pull it off, this country has weathered and persevered through far worse disruptions than this.

If MAGA is the average American, they don't even understand supply/demand.

He should’ve called a primetime address before this and really pounded this message. So many people have such a poor understanding of this whole thing I think it would’ve helped his cause.

Well, one concern I have is the goal posts keep moving on whatever the plan is here. One day, it's to bring back manufacturing, the next is to get other countries to reduce their tariffs. I think there have been a few others.

It's always been both. Some mfg will move back. Some tariffs will be lowered.

Why do all the Trump haters have to act so ignorant to make their arguments?

Hate to tell you, bud...but the conservative party of your youth no longer exists. They are bought, compromised...save but a handful....slightly less corrupt than the Marxists on the left.
We are right fricked regardless of Trump and a few years of Vance if they get this turned around in some months. I honestly don't believe the deep state, or whatever you call it, ls so entrenched that it will never be defeated.
I would like to be wrong.

Trump has a plan for that. His plan is all these Mexicans he's not deporting.
