Did Woke Make Eddie Bauer Go Broke?

They’ve been under pressure up there in Seattle. Apparently they are filing bankruptcy and closing all or most of their stores. They’ve received a lot of lauding publicity over the years for their commitment to DEI.

I’ve owned a few clothing items from them. Didn’t really like any of them, and that has nothing to do with politics. LL Bean was always superior in quality.

LL Bean and Eddie Bauer were specifically created for shapeless, pretentious white people

Eddie Bauer has seen one up close

Had no idea they were still a thing. My mom had an Eddie Bauer Ford Explorer in the 90’s though.

You hate to see it.
Maybe they will have a reckoning awakening and come back to sensible business practices?

Suicidal empathy wins again

One of my best buds from college had one back in the day. We called it the EM50, Urban Assault Vehicle.

Eddie Bauer pioneered thermal outdoor gear back in the day.
Started gearing more towards fashion instead of functionality.
Sold out to private equity in 2021.
Days are numbered.

This seems like starting at a conclusion and working backwards

It amazes me every time one of these companies fails to recognize their core consumer group. And that libtards don’t actually support companies other than Subaru

Woke didn't kill Eddie Bauer, most likely
EB was a relic that couldn't decide if it wanted to be a purely mall brand or a borderline technical outfitter. It cycled through owners none of whom knew what to do with it. It never promoted First Ascent very well. It was tethered to malls as malls died.
It became a classic outlet store brand, but instead of (well, in addition to) outlets, its regular stores felt like outlets, lower end locations and constant sales to survive. There was minimal distinction.
IMO, EB needed to become Columbia - cheap boomer/dad outdoorsy clothes. But Columbia has the PFG niche and is flooded in other retailers (think Kohls, TJ Maxx, etc.) while EB maintained a ton of branded storefronts that probably had no traffic.
