Did Rispone's faux pas linking West Point's reputation to lawyers cost him the election?

Louisiana is known for strongly supporting the U.S. military.

Hell, when LSU played Army last year in the first weekend of the baseball season, the West Point players got a standing ovation by the Alex Box fans after they were introduced prior to the game.

I think Rispone's remarks hurt him more than he and his fan boys would care to admit.

Rispone has no one to blame but himself for losing the election. Had he kept his mouth shut and ran a clean campaign he'd have easily won.

Democrats vote for their candidate almost unconditionally. Republicans don't. That's why we lose elections like this.

He needed to actually show that JBE is not a conservative Democrat. Over 130,000 Republicans voted for JBE because they believe he's a conservative Democrat who has Louisiana headed in the right direction. Rispone did nothing to educate those voters. And they'd rather have what they know than the complete unknown of Rispone.

Because we put out candidates that dont value the people in the State. They spend too much time worried about BTR and MSY......those places are going to vote 80% blue regardless of candidates. You better make sure you get the turn out in the rural areas. You cant run candidates like Rispone and Vitter and get the universal support of old white democrats that dont identify with the modern democrat party but also cant get over the character issues of the candidates trotted out for the GOP.

I think his big message of being like trump probably wasn’t the greatest idea. It seemed like his only message at times. I feel like the Louisiana GOP honestly seems to have mailed this one in. I think Kennedy or garret graves may have won this election. I understand they might not have wanted to run.

EBR does NOT vote "80% blue." Not even 70% blue.

Two legislative runoff races yesterday in Baton Rouge were both won by Republicans, one in the Senate and one in the House.

It was an exaggeration, but I checked and it was 51000 more votes for Edwards than Rispone out of 150k.....it is not even close.

That is fine. But in Gubernatorial elections BTR has gone D by a super large margin. A margin that is so large that it isn't even up for debate.

It's definitely debatable when you incorrectly state that EBR votes "80% blue" when that has never happened.

They won damn near all of the elections they contested. It was a good year for them and every statewide race outside of Governor went republican and have supermajorities in the statehouse now including getting rid of a few RINOs.

They're not responsible for Rispone shitting the bed and running a terrible campaign.

The fact remains that the phony Rispone monicker was incredibly accurate.

Nobody with a functioning brain actually believes he has any actual strongly held conservative values. He gambled that he could spend a ton of money on commercials where he comically recited every stereotypical phrase he thought Louisiana's uneducated redneck voters wanted to hear, as well as coast on the popularity of Donald J Trump.

Very simple. The sheep bit on the attacks to Abraham and put a weak candidate against JBE.

I know the man personally and I know of his community activities. He is a true conservative.

The fact that you and others bought the tag “phoney” is good campaigning on Edwards part and poor campaigning on Eddie’s.

You were misled, but that’s politics.

Not saying much, Box crowd always cheers for the opponent to show “good sportsmanship”
