Did Louisiana really approve “prison labor” of $0.04 per hour?

They've been paying that rate, and slightly higher for some jobs, for decades.

What part of their sentence that says they are sentenced to Hard Labor is confusing?

There was a time, and I'm not certain if this is still the case, but they had to turn over that .04 cents an hour back to the state in order to buy their good time.

Prisoners used to be regarded as "slaves of the state". In fact, the state Constitution created after the Civil War made sure to abolish slavery EXCEPT in the case of prisoners. The theory was that the punishment for a felony was to forfiet one's freedom, literally become the PROPERTY of the State, and thus be forced to work until one's sentence was finished.

We need more of that, tbh. There's tons of work to do and way too many prisoners,

Don't commit a crime, don't be forced to work for $.04 an hour.

Seems more than reasonable. No one said prison was supposed to be Club Med.

I agree, 100%, with Daniel Patron.

Society pays for the roof over your head, the meals you eat, the clothes you wear, the air conditioning you enjoy, etc.

Why TF do you think you get to get paid for anything?

Prison should be hard labor, and while I don't expect a prisoner to actually produce enough value to 100% pay for their own stay in a prison I'll take what I can get.

But they don’t get that, not in LA, you know the state w the highest incarceration rate in the country?

They go to for profit jails, not prisons, run by local sheriffs who literally give them as little as possible. Prison is supposed to be a burden on society, not a racket. Do a little research before you post memes, even ones you agree with.

Louisiana paid every inmate at least .04 cents an hour for years. The inmate was then expected to give the money back if they wanted to earn their good time.

For the prisoners, earning two for one on good time was more than worth the .04 cents.

Now that they're doing 85% of their sentence I don't know how they're handing the money.

Inmates basically are slaves. No rights, no freedom, forced labor.

So?

All of this bullshite can be avoided by simply abiding by laws, but then again you’re a leftist retard so you have zero rationale

85% for violent offenses

50% for non violent.

I believe...the money they make goes into an account that they use to purchase stuff from the canteen and pay for medical expenses.

Says the guy getting fleeced (assuming you live in LA). Follow the money, jackass. Then come talk to me about rationale.

$.04 an hour? Ain’t no prisoner fricking with that tiny amount... I watched a YouTube channel a few nights ago where two ex cons were showing how they made pizza in the joint. Guy claims he was raking in 80 bucks a weekend making pizzas on movie nights.

I’m in a fantastic financial situation in LA and don’t fret taxes because I’ve worked to earn the luxury to not let that burden affect my life.

You being poor is on you and you only. I suggest you own it, do better at life and you’ll feel better about yourself

You obviously don’t have a fricking clue what’s happening in the LA prison system or what you’re talking about. It’s not that we’ll kept a secret.

Think long and hard, why do you think LA has the highest incarceration rate in the country? Not a trick question.
