When they start layoffs and store closings I can't wait for the standard " they were going downhill anyway" and " this had nothing to do with their political decisions" crew to show up.

Another establishment I'll be sure to never shop at again.

And pissing off their share holders I'm sure (I'm assuming they're publicly traded)

Since more kids were killed driving while using their cell phones last year as opposed to being killed by gun shots, does this mean cell phone companies will rig their devices so they can't be used while driving?
And if you're a passenger? "It can wait"

You never go full retard.
If I am one of their investors, I would be pissed at them destroying perfectly good inventory for PR reasons rather than reselling them to a chain that is willing to sell them.

Seems like it would be pretty boring, but I guess sky screamers don't have a sense of humor or taste in entertainment anyway.
I don't care as long as everyone who supports the 2nd sees it and realizes what the lefts ultimate goal is.

quote:This will cost them at least $3.50. The huge free exposure on Social Media that would otherwise cost them a pretty penny had NOTHING to do with this. Please ignore the fact that Dick's (Field & Stream) is getting their asses handed to them 24/7 by BPS.
"But Dick’s has weathered this storm before. Following the deadly Sandy Hook school shooting, Dick’s stopped selling AR-style firearms but continued selling them at the Field & Stream locations, which there are about 35 across the country."

Large corporations just aren't nimble. This story is already over. It's done. No one cares anymore.
Now, they decide to destroy inventory, long after they would get any kind of positive reaction. It's all negative now.

their customer base skews that much to the left that this is worth doing?
Dicks is a pretty savvy business, I would be surprised if they haven't done market research on this. Internet is killing retail (see Toys r us), and dicks has managed to survive in this market (compared to sports authority).

Haven't bought anything from them since they pulled the SJW garbage after Sandyhook.

I've posted about this pretty extensively on the OB in the past. DSG has been trying to get out of the (outdoor) sporting goods business for a long time. Their supply chains cannot handle the inventory necessary to be the go-to store for ammo, fishing lures, etc. They are stretched way too thin.
All their profit comes off apparel and footwear. It is a niche retailer in this respect because they carry only the newest apparel releases, so their prices are higher than the year-old stuff Academy sells. Their footwear is basically the exact same as Academy - when they announced a partnership with Nike to remodel about 16 stores and gain a larger assortment, it became common knowledge that of the 20 best selling Nike shoes, Dicks was only allowed to carry 3 or 4 company wide. Even back 5 or 6 years ago, they had begun opening softlines only stores, and I would argue that will be their model going forward. Within 10 years they will pull guns and ammo out of all stores.
They have absolutely lost their shirt on golf the last 7 years or so. It has damn near bankrupted their hardlines business which was already barely treading water under assault from Cabelas and Bass Pro.
The only reason Dicks has survived this long is because they had tons of cash on hand and were in a much better position to invest coming out of the last recession than Sports Authority, etc. So they pushed hard to open lots of stores and soak the marketplace - thought they were in the catbird seat too until Academy showed up and absolutely raped them for about 2 years straight.
The CEO and the whole Stack family are huge assholes, and no one involved with the company deserves a dime of your money.

Dick's also offered an in-store experience that was far superior to what Sports Authority offered. They are still getting clobbered by internet. The markup on sporting goods has always been really high. I don't think the long term prospeccts are good for Dicks, but they at least make rational business decisions (unlike sports authority).

The key word here. I worked there for almost 6 years. When I started, the pay was some of the highest in the area for big box retail and pretty in-line for the experience necessary to run specialty departments like guns, golf, exercise. The average hunting department sales lead was full time and making about $16/hr with a manager above him making $45k/yr and a GM making about $90k (low COL area, scale up larger metros).
By the time I left, staffing had been cut to the bone. I used to have 5 associates working under me on Saturdays just in the footwear dept; several years later it was single coverage all day. Pay went from above average for FT and PT to minimum wage. Middle management went from mid-40s down to low-30s. Upper management went from 70-100k down to 50-60k. They've actually cut back even more over the last few years, and from 9-5 they will frequently have 2 completely unstaffed departments, which the remaining full timers attempt to cover to the best of their ability. Training is completely non-existent.
The Stack family decided donating money to St Jude's Hospital wasn't a key driver of sales, so they formed a sham charity that would funnel a percentage back in towards the bottom line. It's absolutely sickening IMO.
