When I first read your post I was like "holy cow" and then I was like "oh yeah I vaguely remember that".
Apparently he died on Election Day, November 4th. So the only news I remember watching that day was local & state election coverage.
Not unusual for funerals to have that big a gap after the death day, when you're coordinating travel and trying to get all the family there.
Someone not-famous I know died before him and the funeral isn't until next week.
