Lmao. You do realize that was Paul Ryan’s tax plan. But keep acting like any other Republican wouldn’t have signed it.

Honestly not much because I don’t live paycheck to paycheck like you must do. But his spending definitely led to a lot more damage than the cuts helped.

Trump is the two time defending champ of the Republican Party nomination election.

Hence, he can get a bye until someone gets close.

There aren’t any general election debates set yet, so Biden is irrelevant.

Yes. Literally that and his other accomplishments.

He needs to hammer them home often and hard, and that includes every chance he has on a national stage. He/we absolutely HAVE to pick up more voters and keep hammering the failures of Biden and the Dems at every turn - and that includes on national television during the debates.

Why is this so controversial?

He needs all of the publicity he can get while touting his accomplishments and looking "presidential" compared to Biden. The goal is to beat the Dems, not win the primary.

That has literally been my argument this whole time. Shying away from the republican debates will not add any new support for Trump and will only take supporters away.

We. Need. To. Win.

Period.

And he lost the Presidency and got embarrassed with his midterm picks.

Well, that would indicate his decision was a mistake. But the truth is, unless the field REALLY closes, no one will even watch the debates if Trump is not on stage.

Are the debates he’s skipping general election debates, midterm debates, or Republican nomination debates?

It's not Trump, and never was, DB.

I was alive in 2016, friend.

Trump was an unknown quantity in '16, DB. A lot of us doubted both his commitment (NY Playboy/Casino Tycoon) and ability to fulfill promises. Now Trump Nation truly loves the guy, as it's easy for him to stand out given the lowly stature of what is out there now.

If Trump folds on taking down the rogue Deep State, we are toast when it comes to Constitutional, God-given Rights Freedom. If one believes that such Freedom is no longer superior or practical or moral, then Statist serfdom and subservience is what they deserve, and will get. As long as it's a fair contest, I'll go along in good faith, unless or until rogue heathen threaten my beloved. But you can damn well bet that a lot won't, especially when it comes to the souls of their children.

Are you another one of those “ah we’ll figure the general election shite out when ever we get to it” people?

This might be relevant if he was president and running as an incumbent.

then it’ll be clear cut FRAUD, just like Ted Cruz committed in Iowa in 2016

BBONDS says you better not legitimize the 2016 Iowa primary.

Are the voters he needs to win over former Trump voters that have soured on him, independents and moderates that he failed to woo in 2020, or nevertrumpers that he needs to come into the fold to beat the Dems?

He needs all three and a balls to the wall ground game to beat the Dems. Which is the ENTIRE POINT

If the entire goal was to get Trump the nomination, then I would agree simply resting on his laurels and skipping the debates while angrily posting on Truth Social is the perfect plan. But he needs to do literally everything he can to turn the tide against him and get people outside his base excited about voting for him

He’s earned my vote. His campaign is pointed at the general now. There’s no value in focusing on the primary with the way things stand.

I would really love to have someone like Richard Grinnell moderating the debate. It would be quite the predicament for Desantis and company since they seem all onboard for a holy war and are chomping at the bit to make being gay a criminal offense in the US.

I disagree about people not watching. As someone else said trumps lead is a mile wide but an inch deep. People will watch to see if there’s anyone else out there. but I think Iowa is going to be Desantis’ regardless of trump showing or not or whether people watch nationally or not.

Iowa is a different state with a funny system. It takes having a detail oriented candidate/campaign and on the GOP side it’s socially conservative.

I’ll bookmark and bump this thread win or lose.

I don’t think so. But it’s possible.

And when he does, despite what you’ve said here in this thread, it will be resoundingly lauded as 4-D chess and an incredible new strategy to “run up the score” (to keep your football analogy).

He will win the debates if he shows. I just don’t think he needs them. To keep the football analogy, he needs to pull the starters and start prepping for the bigger game.
