Would be foolish for DeSantis to run in ‘24 when ‘28 is so easy for him.

Agreed. ‘24 is a meatgrinder for Ron and it will absolutely sully him to the Trump base, even if he does eventually get the nomination.

Why risk it?

If he gets on the Trump train, it helps everyone exponentially as well as assures him Trump’s still MASSIVE influence in 2028.

16% is very reasonable for DeSantis, this will be encouraging for him

Would you like to comment on what Trump’s handpicked VP (i.e. his successor) would have to say about that?

If he's alive in '28, I don't think Trump will have much influence at all. He will have lost the nomination in '24 or be a 2 time loser to Biden at that point

That’s the thing. He doesn’t want that to happen.

We can argue all night but it’s still wishcasting. I’m not entirely sure Trump has lost a lot of the support he had in 2020. 74 million votes didn’t just disappear, and those numbers may be stronger with everything that has transpired since then.

Trump can definitely win in '24. I think DeSantis can, too. To me it's about who would be best at stepping up and leading the Right/Center on some issues that are going to be tough AF to deal with.

The skepticism I have about Trump in this regard is he didn't do this in his first term. Not that he was horrible, but on some absolutely pivotal issues/matters, he failed. Maybe he learns from that failure? Maybe it steels his resolve.

Same sort of thing re: DeSantis - before I'm fully on board with the guy, I have to be confident he's going to shut the bullshite in Ukraine down - and right now, I do not have that confidence.

It’s like you’re in my head

Honestly, I think Trump’s issues at the end were him being supremely confident that he had 2020 wrapped up and it was gift-wrapped, but that’s a whole different topic.

That’s being said, I’m pretty much aligned where you’re at as well.

Easier said than done at this point....fricking Biden has got us so damn deep in this mess........I liken it to Nixon winning in 68 and having to deal with the war in Vietnam....Trump or DeSantis is going to have a real problem to figure out. Pulling support will mean the collapse of the country and then what other problems come from that could potentially be worse? It took several more years to extricate ourselves from Vietnam and the country just collapsed anyway.

I really don't know what the the answer is here.....continuing down this path with Ukraine is unsustainable long term.

Could be Ron if he plays his cards right.

I disagree with this. Even losing in 24, he will command a humongous part of the party. Y’all think if he loses, he just disappears like after the Thanos snap?

He will stay dangerous until the day he’s taken his last orange breath.

Trump unfortunately will win the nomination if he wants, his base can win anyone the nomination no matter how a big a loser they are.

As we know though if he wins the nomination he'll tank the GOP in 2024. He'll lose the general for sure and we'll likely see more states go blue like Georgia did. He needs to step aside and let Ron win the nomination because Ron WILL win the general in 2024 if he gets the nom.
