False. DeSantis was getting clobbered in the primary polls several months after Trump endorsed him. The polls changed within a week after the first DeSantis-Putnam debate.
Trump's approval rating in Florida in the fall of 2018 was minus 4 and 2018 was a Democrat +7 wave year and DeSantis still won. He won over enough suburban moms and Independents who disliked Trump. Rick Scott did the same thing.

My bad. You are correct. But my general point still remains that it was a lot less about Trump than people make it out to be.

It's all about policy and willingness to attack and destroy the deep state. DeSantis just does not have the chops. He's a good man, but just doesn't stack up. Maybe 2028.
