The 18-year-old who was killed this week in an officer-involved shooting in Southeast Washington, D.C., was shot in the chest while holding a gun in his hand, body camera footage released Thursday revealed.

Deon Kay was killed Wednesday afternoon after police arrived in the 200 block of Orange Street to investigate a report of a man brandishing a gun.

Authorities say when police arrived on the scene, they encountered individuals standing around a vehicle. When the suspects saw the officers, they fled on foot.

During the pursuit of the suspects, police said Mr. Kay brandished a firearm and an officer responded by firing his gun, hitting him in the chest. He died later at an area hospital.

The body camera footage appears to back up the police officer’s account of events. A gun allegedly belonging to Mr. Kay was recovered at the scene.

But, but...

Why didn't they just tackle him?

Why didn't they taze him?

Why didn't they cuddle him and tell him bedtime stories?

So, you cannot keep up.... Until he fires at least one round in the general direction of LE, it is not a fair fight and the LE should wait patiently until the suspect engages with his or her weapon...

Even then, the LE officer should only shoot to wound and hopefully not paralyze the suspect...

Wait, this can’t be true! The girl on the livestream last night said he was just a kid who just celebrated his 18th birthday and was shot in the back! She heard it from a reliable source who got it from source whose cousin heard it from their roommate!

Did he die “from” a gunshot wound, or “with” a gunshot wound?

Asking for a friend.

They refuse to make this distinction about COVID, why would they start now?

Actually LE is allowed to shoot first if the suspect brandishes but is only to shoot the gun out of the suspects hand at that point.

Cop-assisted suicide.

I think "the talk" needs to include standard police protocols and what not to do to avoid being killed.

Doesnt matter, narrative was set before the facts came out. Media will never cover it and Drew Brees will put his name of his helmet

I thought it was illegal to possess a firearm inside the District. maybe someone can set me straight on that.
