I find it very odd how people are picking sides so quickly on this one. In this case it's unclear who each party was and what exactly they were doing there, what led up to the shooting, etc.

I'll reserve judgement for the time being, because I really have no idea what to think given the info currently on hand.

Here, I’ll just post it since everyone saying they “need more info” seem incapable of finding it themselves

I saw all that, but I'd like to see the full context of the incident.

There is going to be no context that justifies lethal force on someone backing away with 100 cops near you. He was drawing his weapon before the guy even went for the mace.

He drew his weapon in response to being slapped.

Great work. Most important fact, the victim has his hands at his side while the assailant is already reaching for his weapon. Not a good shoot.

I'm not disputing that he shot him, I'm questioning the events that led to it including who exactly each person was and what they were doing there.

None of that matters.

The “security guard” walked up to the victim seconds after the conclusion of the initial incident and (apparently) tried to take his mace from him. The victim resisted this attempt and (apparently) slapped him at that point. The assailant drew his weapon and shot him.

Total of 45 seconds - first confrontation and then off screen shooting (five seconds)

Sure it does, just as the circumstances surrounding Rittenhouse's presence at the scene and the actions of others involved mattered in that case.

The circumstances people discussed about Rittenhouse were whether or not people were reaching for his gun.

That’s not even remotely similar.

I’ll say it again: there are no external circumstances that ever justify shooting someone for slapping you and backing up when there are cops everywhere around you.

He put himself in a “have to shoot” situation when he drew his weapon in response to getting slapped.

Yup, he started pulling his gun out after being slapped and the victim was backing away. Murder.

You may be 1000% correct. I just want to see the full video for myself.

I understand that, but even the fact that you have to put security guard in parenthesis sort of makes my point.

Even if the fact that he committed murder were not in dispute at all, the nature of who he was and why he was there matters A LOT. This is because these cases are used as political narratives.

I guess most of us already know these things. You have to be licensed to be an armed security guard in Denver. He was not. Big strike.

NEW: Denver Dept of Excise and Licenses confirms “there is no record for an active licensed security guard now or ever for an individual named Matthew Doloff or Dolloff. If he was operating as a security guard, he was in violation of the law”. More tonight on @CBSDenver at 10p

He fricked. News9 fricked.
