Dems propose ‘baby bonds’ to close the racial wealth gap: ‘Black lives and Black wealth matter’
House and Senate Democrats this week proposed a bill that would instruct the federal government to give anyone born in the U.S. after 2005 a $1,000 "seed savings account," and then make contributions to that account until they are 18 – a plan sponsors say is aimed at closing America’s "racial wealth gap."
If enacted into law, the bill would transfer billions of dollars in wealth from high-income families to low-income families, as it would fund the program by significantly increasing estate tax revenues.
The "baby bonds" bill, from Sen. Cory Booker, D-N.J., and Rep. Ayanna Pressley, D-Mass., would give children up to $2,000 a year in the lowest income families, an amount that would drop as families earn more. Once a family makes more than 500% of the federal poverty level, their kids would only receive the initial $1,000 payment.
They estimate children in the poorest families would have $46,000 to use for school or buying a home by the time they turn 18, and Booker said in a statement that the plan is explicitly aimed at fixing "wealth inequality."

Yea. That's absolutely what it would be used for.

To close the wealth gap you would have to change the education attainment and ability gap. In order to change the education attainment ability gap, you have to change the IQ gap. It is impossible to change the IQ gap with any type of monetary amount.
When this experiment fails they will just make it life long payments to make everyone equal...

As Larry Elder often points out, the racial wealth gap doesn't exist for black couples who finish HS, work, get married and then have children.

Require perfect attendance and we will only have to give out...1000 or 2000 bucks

Don't matter when the blacks blow it all on lottery tickets and fried chicken.

I got this from sewel, but something like 40% of black single mothers live in poverty. Only 8% of black married couples live in poverty.

Wanna create wealth?
Get married, THEN have kids. Try not to have more than you can afford.
Don't do drugs.
Don't gamble.
Get a job or learn a trade and do well at it.
SAVE a little bit every month.
Don't waste your money on expensive new cars, fancy clothes or dining out all the time. Buy used, ignore fashion trends and learn to cook.
You aren't poor because you're black, hispanic or whatever. You are poor because you and/or your parents made bad decisions over and over and over....
My wife and I never made a lot of money, but we saved. Our kid is about to graduate from UNC-Chapel Hill without having to borrow a penny. We have retirement savings and live a pretty nice life.
I am sick of hearing that somehow my doing the right things somehow held someone else back. That is complete bullshite.

I estimate that the benevolent government would dip into these funds so much that the program will be bankrupt within 10 years.
