Democrats shatter primary turnout records, bank on anti-Trump enthusiasm to deliver Congress
By Seth McLaughlin
Thursday, August 16, 2018
Democrats saw a surge in voter turnout in primaries in flyover country this month, leaving party leaders salivating over a potential enthusiasm gap they hope will deliver control of Congress and several major governorships in November.
Turnout records were broken in Wisconsin, Minnesota and Michigan, with Democrats outdistancing Republicans in the gubernatorial race and collecting more votes in numerous primary fights as both parties picked their nominees.
Those are all states where President Trump led Republicans to gains in 2016, but where Democrats say things are swinging back their direction.
“You are seeing a huge turnout in every race from dog catcher to governor,” Jared Leopold, spokesman of the Democratic Governors Association, told The Washington Times. “That sign bodes well for November.”
Political strategists caution against judging too much from primaries — particularly in the Trump era, when the president’s approval ratings are fickle.

Do they understand they have to vote again?

Hmmm. This all seems eerily similar to 2016.

How many of these voters were
A) alive
B) legal voters
and
C) aware that "they" voted
I mean not worrying about A,B, or C is after all the Democratic way.

Yeah, the whole "inevitability" thing. I mean a President is "supposed" to lose seats in the House at his first mid-term - that's the rule, not the exception. But they ("the left") penciled in a taking of the House IMMEDIATELY after they lost the last election.
None of the doom and gloom they predicted happened. The economy has outperformed expectations (usually the opposite has to happen for a legitimate wave election). Trump is a polarizing figure, but he doesn't have abysmal approval ratings.
I'm going to say it - Rs will gain seats in the Senate. Worst case in the Senate is a push. A few races here and there could shift the House, no question, but even that does not appear certain.
What am I missing?

Polling in special elections and key primary races have been spot on so far.
The Dems have the edge to take the House. It’s just a matter of how many more seats GOP can get for the Senate. I think they have that locked up.
Michigan and Wisconsin are going blue in 2020. Enough Dem voters clearly sat out in 2016 when you dive into the numbers. Trump hardly made any gains on the voter count in regards to what Romney/McCain got in those states.

Am I the only one who thinks losing the House would be good for Trump ? I mean it's not like Paul Ryan and his merry band of morons are helping Trump's agenda any more than the Dems would and there is zero chance of losing the Senate, so it's not like Congress will be able to stop Trump from doing anything.
And if they DO take the House and are stupid enough to impeach knowing full well they would never get a conviction in the Senate even if the House passed impeachment (unlikely even if the Dems take control) that would just make Trump look that much stronger.
And honestly , maybe the GOP needs a wake up call.
All that said , I think they keep the House I'm just suggesting that losing it wouldn't be terrible news for Trump himself, or the country as a whole.

This is true and very concerning. There is a massive surge in the dem vote. HOWEVER, this is their limit, they won’t get more in the general election. GOP must get out and vote to counter the surge in the general

How many dead people voted in that OHIO special election ?

It's frustrating seeing these responses because the reality is that come November, it's going to be Republicans this time wondering what the frick happened, when we are just laughing off the signs right here. Human nature's a bitch.

This article should be a rallying call for Republicans and independents who like their tax cut to get out and vote against dems.

The GOP has been pathetic. If you look at the top issues for voters these are 1&2. They had every chance to tackle them and they failed miserably.
