Good observation. One thing I would note, however. With the Dems, their "party regulars" are crap, but these new Mamdani-types are even worse.
With the Republicans, the party regulars are also crap. But imo, the insurgency from the MAGA Movement is hopefully a foreshadowing of the future of the Republican Party. The biggest problem, though, is simply how well-entrenched the corrupt Political Establishment actually is.
I'm hoping the fact that Establishment hacks like Cornyn, Cassidy, and others being defeated is a sign of things to come. It's a really slow process, though.

People against protectionism are simply unable to see the big picture because they are driven by their ideology. They can see the negative effects of their policies, but their allegiance to their ideology refuses to allow them to admit those policies caused the problem.
Their ideology isn't used as a guide to make decisions. They do what their narrow ideology that only considers basic variables tells them to do regardless of the cost.
One can take an ideology and improve it by tailoring it to specific situations, but any derivation from the ideology is an unforgivable sin to ideologues.

The problem is the big tent can't survive when you have people with totally opposite views on real issues. In comes the socialists to the big tent. Now they have taken over and they are kicking the moderates to the curb.
