Seems to me the right has done an effective job of framing this as the left wanting to pay for illegal aliens.

Honest question. Have you ever, in your life, seen a media poll that shows the GOP winning a PR battle with Dems?

Thune and Johnson are responsible for legislative victories.
DJT is doing his own work and doing it well.

Yeah, so?

So you end up with a distorted picture of current events, just as a lefty would if she only watches CNN and reads the NYT.

This will probably fall on deaf ears, but I recommend Matthew Yglesias’ substack. He is a very reasonable, intellectual, data mining center-leftist. His substack is “Slow Boring” due to its reliance on data and analyses.

If you are serious about debating current events you should engage your opponents at their best. On social media, we see them at their comical worst.

You realize every SINGLE Rep voted on this bill….a bill Dems agreed to a few months ago.

The GOP isn’t the one that shut the government down and anyone with an IQ knows that.

All I know is, if the Republicans have to give the DEMs anything to reopen the government, they better get something big in return. I mean they better grow a pair and not be like McConnell and just cave. By "Big", I mean they better come up with a demand the DEMs really hate like Voter ID, and they better make them vote for it if they want any of their demands met.

They need to take advantage of this situation and get something good from it.

Have to say, the Dems have done their usual job of blitzing social media and the MSM with their message of saving healthcare for the children, the poor, and the middle class.

All while keeping hidden away their desire to resume funding for USAID and other spending boondoggles.

The Republicans, as usual, instead of taking the fight to the Dems are just sitting back absorbing body blows. They’re almost non existent with messaging.

That’s not what any of the (what I believe to be) reliable data and polling sources I use.

Generally; the right really don’t care if it days shut down as long as more feds lose their jobs and we are seeing movement on ANTIFA

The left; they just want to fight, or to make a show about fighting, to try to appease their base with an ask Trump would be politically suicidal to agree to.

Either way you slice it the left is really in a lose lose because the independents, whose voices matter the most in this context, blame the dems

We just got back from our annual company trip to NW Montana. It was pretty nice to be able to enter Glacier NP without having to pay a fee since no one was there at the gate due to the shut down.

So far, nothing in my life has changed for the worse, nor have I suffered any hardship at all because of the shutdown. Air travel has proven markedly better as TSA agents were absent at Glacier International (Kalispell) and the private security agents performed at a much higher level of proficiency and professionalism than the government employees. It was also easier to declare/check a firearm for travel since the private agents checking my firearm for compliance with rules for its transportation were very knowledgeable with the rules and procedures.

Travel, for sure, was more enjoyable this past week than at any other time since the Patriot Act went into effect.

I, for one, am in favor of more frequent government shutdowns!

You realize that the GOP have voted 5 times to open the Government.

The Dems are asking to repeal the BBB cuts and restore NPR funding. No GOPer ever voted to do that.

You Dims are going to lose despite how dumb the MAGA base is.

This is what I'm saying...for some reason the PT board seems to think I'm in favor of the Dims. The reality is there are two bills, one is a GOP clean bill, no cuts and the other is billions in new spending, restoring pet leftist causes and making it impossible to cut going forward.

I don't know why the PT board doesn't see this. It's proof my point A is correct.

You understand how this impacts Trump? They are all bound together in the outcome.

Why can't people see I'm not slamming Trump, I'm saying the Dems are on point and feel they have leverage where the GOP are faced with getting people to understand this is more than just an ACA tax credit debate.

I know...it's crazy they can make this into the GOP wont give us healthcare....my point is they are winning the discourse in the media. This board may think the Trump/GOP are winning this but the Dems have more backing from their base to keep it shut than the GOP do from their base to open the Gov back up.
