August 6-9, 1945: Three days when Japan learned the meaning of the American phrase, "You mess with the bull, you get the horns."

I have my issues with Franklin D. Roosevelt, but I do believe his address to Congress on December 8 was one of the GOAT. Politicians don't say things like this anymore:

quote:

As commander in chief of the Army and Navy, I have directed that all measures be taken for our defense. But always will our whole nation remember the character of the onslaught against us. No matter how long it may take us to overcome this premeditated invasion, the American people in their righteous might will win through to absolute victory.

quote:

With confidence in our armed forces, with the unbounding determination of our people, we will gain the inevitable triumph — so help us God.

Roosevelt threw the naval commanders under the bus when he knew the Japs were going to attack......

Nothing like getting US in a war........

The voting public always backs the War President and re-elects him......

Just ask Bush 43’ and his evil cabinet who fed us a load of BS as the Donald says.....

MAGA and crap on the Turkey journalist who got sawed up..... let the Saudi get off their gold toilets and fight and die...

I've read varying accounts on that. Are you convinced that FDR knew in advance? I'm not.

We knew that Japan was going to attack one of our pacific holdings....somewhere. I highly doubt FDR knew that pearl harbor and the base of the Pacific fleet was going to be attacked on December 7th and then did nothing about it. That's too far, but we obviously expected them to attack somewhere at some point in time across a very large portion of earth

Yea it was either the fleet of ships or a hotel resort. Hard to say which they’d go after!

Also we moved our newer ships and a couple aircraft carriers out of Pearl Harbor before the atfack and left behind some older WW1 ships to be struck

meh. Expecting the Japanese to make an initial attack against us at the Philippines was not an insane thing to expect and basically every single war game we had thought of with the Japanese all pointed to them attacking at the Philippines. We were wrong, but didnt intentionally forsake those at pearl harbor

uhh every single battleship in the Pacific fleet was damaged. We also lost a bunch of other surface ships, like cruisers and destroyers, that we under 20 years old. We also lost hundreds of planes that never got off the ground. Once again, we would not have let either one of those things happen. That was a massive loss to our naval strength in the pacific

For the sake of historical accuracy, Roosevelt said the DATE that will live in infamy not the DAY.

False flag to drag the US into a war that the public did not support.

Then dropping nukes on a country that was already negotiating surrender.

This is the day the MIC won.

We knew an attack was imminent but just about everyone who mattered believed that attack would fall on the Philippines. No one could have ever dreamt that the Japanese would try to stealthily steam four aircraft carriers to within a couple hundred miles of the Hawaiian islands and launch a carrier attack on our main naval base. The distance and logistics involved to carry out such a plan were considered too great to overcome. Also...there was a little bit of racism injected into that line of thinking as well. Many of our war planners considered the Japanese intellectually incapable of planning such an attack.

Slo down scooter....

We asked for their unconditional surrender or else... They said no.

So they got else...

We asked again for their unconditional surrender or else... They said no.

They got else...

They didn't refuse the 3rd time.

Well regardless of whether or not he knew which base it would be, to place such a large percentage of our fleet in one confined place is incredibly stupid.

Not related to whether FDR knew about the attack or not, losing the obsolete battleships at Pearl may have actually saved lives. If those ships had not been destroyed they would have been obliterated in direct combat with the Japanese fleet. As evidenced in early "shooting" contests, our tactics, experience and equipment early in the war were inferior to the Japanese.

He also said "which" instead of "that" ... if you want historical accuracy.

And right after that, he plotted to hand half of Europe to the Communists.
