Licensed gun owner aids Illinois cops in shootout with suspect

when Duarte, a four-year-veteran of the department, and his partner tried to pull over a vehicle in Cicero for a routine traffic stop. The driver instead took off onto a ramp leading to Interstate 55, in Chicago’s city limits.

quote:

The officers boxed the vehicle in traffic and the suspect got out and began firing the automatic weapon at them as he fled on foot, Fox 32 Chicago reported. The officers returned fire.

The concealed-carry owner then got out of his vehicle and began shooting at the suspect.

quote:

“We were lucky enough to have a citizen on the street there’s who’s a concealed-carry holder, and he’s also engaged in gunfire,” said Cicero police Superintendent Jerry Chlada Jr.

This must be Fake News. Chicago has gun free zone signage up. This obviously wont happen due to the signs.

Was this a truly "automatic weapon", or just one of those scary black guns?

He had an AUTOMATIC weapon? In CHICAGO? What further proof do you need that gun control doesn't work?

and to that licensed holder. Good job, citizen. Some moron will be along shortly to tell us all how he "could have gotten everyone killed by involving himself in the situation" or something else just as equally ridiculous.

I’m of the “citizens should have access to bazookas” line of thinking when it comes to gun rights, but a random person joining in on a police gunfight doesn’t strike me as something we should be celebrating. For every time this goes right, I could see dozens going terribly wrong.

A snap response to an eminent threat is one thing, but joining an ongoing fight? That has the feeling of a civilian charging into a burning building when firefighters have already responded.

I bet he was not supposed to have that auto weapon due to laws and shite.

Hell, I bet it's illegal to shoot at cops too.

I will take an informal poll of my police friends but my impression from past conversations is that the last thing they would want is some non-officer yahoo jumping up and joining them in a firefight.

First thing I thought of. The citizen that helped the police will probably be prosecuted by some democrat DA for having a gun in a gun free zone.

No training, no radio, no ability to coordinate. It’s a recipe for disaster.

Publicly and "officially" sure they'll say this but privately I bet every cop wants help when he's out-gunned

I’m sure there are some hypotheticals in which they would, but I seriously doubt they trust civilians to make that call
