Guess I’m not understanding this.

The US can take out an Iranian general with pinpoint accuracy half way around the world, but can’t dismantle and destroy a drug cartel operating in our country and in a country that a border is shared with?

You telling me we don’t have the cartel leadership under drone surveillance and can’t pop these bastards?

The US should declare them a terrorist organization and put Mexico govt on notice that we are coming in to destroy the processing plants, product, and soldiers of this organization.

They need to be treated the same as Islamic jihadists and militarily destroyed.

Because they are a major source of funding for the people pulling the trigger.

We’ve done this 3/4 times already in Mexico’s short and shitty history. It has never worked.

Perhaps MAGA will do this in his second term.

Will it be messy? Oh very much so.

Will Mexican civilians be killed? Undoubtedly.

Has the Mexican authorities allowed this cancer to infect every aspect of their country? Yes

Will it be there fault of the carnage that should be coming their way? Yes

If we take out leaders of the cartel, won’t they start targeting the families of local politicians in the US? They are some ruthless bastards.

So the agency that enforces drug laws thinks that a drug organization is a huge threat? Let me guess, they want more money and people in the DEA to fight this problem?

If the US government was serious about stopping cartels they could crush them in short order with drug legalization and financially targeting "legit" cartel business'.

So you’re saying the cartels are too powerful for the US military apparatus?

GTFO with this nonsense

I agree - I'm sure there are diplomatic problems with Mexico with that approach, but that is what our goal should be.

What’s Mexico going to do about it?

Lodge a formal protest with the UN?

Economically sanction us?

Declare war upon us?

The Govt of the USA isn't capable enough to solve an international problem like this one. The whole apparatus is infected by people like John Brennan, James Comey and Nancy Pelosi. Do you have faith that this sort could solve a problem like that? Career bureaucrats whose greatest talent is to grow government and make themselves look great?

This is an unrealistic and unlikely proposition, and I would seriously doubt the effectiveness of it.

But it would almost be worth it to see the cataclysmic level pearl clutching that would come from the UNGA, EU, and OAS if this were to happen. So many angry letters would be written.

Let's be serious here. We can't just go in and kick their arse no matter how much we would like to. The Mexican Government has already told us no on this issue. Trump has already offered help and they rejected it.

We have no business starting another war. That's exactly what it would be.

However, instead of using drones and bombs, something they could, and should, consider is sending in covert ops types to take out the heads of this organization.

Otherwise, we are gonna have to wait for the Mexican Government to accept our offer of help.

No matter how cool it sounds, we aren't gonna just start dropping bombs on Mexico. That would be entirely reckless.

As former leaders of our two largest law enforcement/intelligence agencies, we can be assured that these two have a larger hand in the cartels rise than any Mexican nationals do.

No worries. If they need more they will just raid some guy selling dime bags and seize everything he owns.

the general public has very little idea how bad it is. i have met with federal officials about it. also, the documentary 60 days in:narcoland detailed how the cartels have a foothold in louisville since it's a n/s corridor that splits the country. they're here more than most people realize

Of course I’m not saying that. What caused you to make that leap?

I merely suggested that the cartels may resort to some pretty brutal tactics. They already do that in Mexico. Is that so outrageous that you needed to lose it a bit?

How about we dismantle the world's oldest and largest and most violent Drug Cartel using your ideas 1st? That's right, take down the CIA!
