This weekly pattern is getting fairly predictable, now. Peaks mid-late in the week, dips sharply over the weekend and now through Tuesday (Tuesday used to be the spike day), then repeat.
But, still feels like a lot of downward pressure on the curve. Under 25k new cases today would be fantastic as would under 27.5k tomorrow and it wouldn't hurt my feelings if deaths dropped off more quickly than expected.
Sadly, 70k total deaths will be reached today and it isn't out of the realm of possibility to be at 80k by the end of next weekend, although it does not seem certain now with the sustained drop in daily deaths.

It looks like we may have one of those deceptive death total days, if these are added today at least if/until the dates can be correctly attributed.

Why is it primarily New York "finding" these deaths? Has any other state been doing this like that?

You get the feeling that there’s a strong correlation between a dysfunctional state/local government and mortality in these situations.
How do you miss 1700 deaths?

Don’t get me wrong government is inherently dysfunctional by nature, but I’m willing to give them the benefit of the doubt in this instance since it’s such a unique situation record keeping in real time of mass deaths in these facilities is probably not something anyone prepared for.

Yeah, but.
These are reportable. If the average nursing home outbreak claims 10 lives (I’m spitballing based on anecdotes), you have 170 facilities which were overlooked.
Or the record keeping is so shoddy that it’s impossible to trust their numbers positively or negatively.

You’re probably right. I was just thinking that there were delays in verification and reporting to the state with different protocols for reporting as was the case in some European countries (France) who mass submitted the deaths at one time.

We were under 1000 deaths until late evening, then Michigan came in. Then what looked like a data dump from Veterans Affairs of another 184 put it over 1300.

Regardless, I would hope that if they dumped a bunch of data on one day, that they actually ensured that the data was accurate, but you never know.

Came across this nice graph to show that our national plateau really continues to be made up of falling rates in NYC metro area and rising rates elsewhere.
