Didn’t have any family that was cops, so no I was never told that there were insiders who would look out for my interests later.

I've also never once thought it'd be a good idea to be verbally or physically combative with a cop, regardless if he's wrong or not

It’s worked out well for me for 54 years.

Told my sons that if the police are agitated and tell you to move back a foot, you say yes sir and move back twelve inches. Even the best have shitty days and you know they have a gun. I would rather get you out of jail than the morgue.

You won’t get dead if you don’t break the law or frick with cops.

I thought this was just common sense.

Unless they bust into your house with a no knock warrant at the wrong address and shoot your entire family dead

In high school I believe. My dad told me if a cop tells you to "come here", you go. A cop tells you to "get on the ground", you get on the ground. A cop tells you to "go home", you go home. Already have given the message to my 10 yr old.

My Dad and I were watching the evening news. There was a story about a guy who had gotten into a gunfight with cops, killed at least one, and holed up inside his house.
Naturally, multiple cops surround the house, guy refused to surrender, wound up getting killed.
Dad turns to me and says "Son, if you ever kill a cop, keep shooting". Basically saying, you won't make it to court.

We’ve talked to our son about this since he started walking places on his own and hanging out wit friends in public places. I always stress that he needs to do what the cop says and let me handle anything else after it’s over.

The OVERWHELMING and vast majority of police interaction with the public ends with ABSOLUTELY no harm to the citizens.. this is a fact. You can cherry pick all you want, but facts are stubborn things.

I have a friend who was arrested while drunk. Don’t remember why he was arrested, but nothing serious. He proceeded to tell the black cop that, “Whatever bro, I’ll be sober and free in the morning, but you’ll still be a ni**er.”

The cop brought him to the station, booked him, put him in a cell by himself, and then returned shortly thereafter and beat the shite out of him.

I told him he pretty much deserved that one.

People have been arrested for no reason. There is still no reason to make it worse.

Anything perceived to be going for a gun puts them in a situation of you or them going home. What would your choice be.

The Georgia shooting while not a cop was a questionable decision If I had been in the middle of a neighborhood street during daylight with someone pointing a gun at me, l would have been screaming for someone to call the cops. Wrestling for the gun with another armed man standing there seems like a low odds choice.

There are some cops in every city who are some of the absolute worst people you will ever meet. They don’t care if you are white or black just that they hold the power over you

It does. You know how many times cops should ever bust into the wrong house and kill an innocent person? NONE. Never. Whatever process leads to these rare cases must be rooted out. Same for the number of times cops should kneel on a mans neck until he dies. Stats won’t bring back either of the victims of these rare cases, both of which have occurred in the last two months. Stop excuse making for bad cops and bad policies.

In fairness, I had a cop pull me over on the way home from a 16 hour shift a mile from my house because she suspected me of DUI. She saw that I was barely awake and asked me what was going on (3am) because I pulled across 2 lanes coming off a highway exit. Since I was so close to my house and was in uniform she let me off with a warning.

Yeah, but if you were black, she would have executed you. No doubt.

I'm white as a mofo and I had the same talk with my kids. I told them never to fight or even argue with cops. We would get the lawyers involved after the fact.
