Almost hard to imagine, to be honest. Our best and brightest want absolutely nothing to do with running for office anymore. There are many reasons, but the media/Internet situation is not a small part of it.
We are a worse country for it too. There are tons of smart, good people who want nothing to do with politics because it almost always means exposing your family to the mob.

I get what you are saying but you and I both know the majority of people only absorb politics on a surface level and not to the depth of those who bother to post about it on a message board like we do. To them, the culture ware AKA shite flinging matters as silly as that seems, and with how fast the left is shifting further and further I see it all as an opportunity to flip people to Rs.
Of course, it is low-brow but sadly so is the average voter.
