Wasn't this done a decade ago? What gives with this particular part of the EO?

This is one reason health insurance will continue to sky rocket. If this is so great, why can’t I total my truck then go purchase a policy to replace it?

Why do stupid people use this example?

If you total your truck you can go and buy another truck.

If you die, you don't get another chance.

People are not vehicles.

Because it's a valid point. It's called "insurance" for a reason. If nobody bought insurance until they needed it then there wouldn't be any insurance companies. Which, if you're a moron that thinks "iNsUrAnCe Is A sCaM!", probably sounds like a good thing.

None of this answers why it needed to be included in this EO.

Not replying to anyone in particular. It's simply the last post in the thread at the moment,

Was I born with Multiple Sclerosis? Nope. Woke up blind one morning during the middle of exams at LSU. That was in ‘98. I could not get health insurance until the Covering of pre existing conditions Went through. Do you think that’s fair? Do you still want to compare it to a truck?

Insurance IS a scam. If I had all the premiums I ever paid, I could buy a new truck, a new house a new heart, and a fricking robot body to house my brain in perpetuity and have money left over.

Because even MORE stupid people don’t understand that the purpose of insurance is to transfer RISK, not pay for a loss AFTER it has occurred.

lolwut?

I hoped to never have to use the liability insurance I have for my company.

I got sued last year. Finally settled two months ago. It was worth every penny I've paid over the past 12 years.

My guess is that it is a precursor to making another run at Obamacare. Make sure you guarantee that pre-existing conditions are locked down so that can't be criticized and then try to get rid of everything else.

Although I'm not sure how much good that would do. The requiring the pre-existing conditions is probably the single biggest provision that renders the whole idea unworkable.

If you get any illness once. The next time it is a pre existing condition. According to insurance.

What you want is not INSURANCE. What you want is an entitlement. So ‘yes’, the truck analogy still applies.

You gotta admit, it's a pretty fricked up system that bills one price to people that have insurance and
a different price to people that don't.

Yes.

That was your choice to not have insurance coverage before you woke up blind. It's not fair for you to experience the consequences of your choices? It's fair to force someone else to pay for them instead?

Nothing “fair” about life or the hand you are dealt. You take the risk you are willing to take and if that includes not purchasing insurance for your care that is on you.

Why is it “fair” for me to pay your way through higher premiums because you didn’t insure yourself?

It has to be some sort of long game. It doesn’t really make sense at face value.

I never will forget one of my old clients cancelled his policy and said that exact statement.

"I aInT hAd No WrEcKs In 30 YeArS! InSuRaNcE iS a ScAm"

Jackass came in a month later trying to get coverage after he ran a yellow light, hit someone and the person he hit was coming after him for damages. I wish I could say I felt bad for him but dude made his bed.

I mean, if the guy develops MS while on his parents insurance and then has to go off at 25 and then is unable to secure insurance, that’s not a fault of his. And yes, that is unfair.
