Well, the left has rejected the concept of justice and have been pursuing some alternative definition for a while now, so I suppose this makes sense.

Unbelievable. It'd be one thing if it was the "mom" or "dad" leaving the child in a car when it got to 140 degrees. This is beyond absurd. Probation for delibertately starving your child? Pathetic.

Obviously the baby should be alive.
I've birthed babies. I know what it's like to be postpartum with a newborn you desperately want to breastfeed but there's some issue that prevents an effective milk transfer. Moms blame themselves for being defective and try doing all sorts of things to make breastfeeding work.
I remember my first not gaining enough weight at his first couple of appointments. I was determined to make breastfeeding work and didn't want to supplement with formula because that can negatively impact milk production and of course introducing a bottle can cause tremendous issues with nursing. It's an incredibly emotional thing for women to go through after they carried a baby for 10 months and brought said baby into the world.
Considering this baby was only 10 weeks old when she died, the mom was still in the thick of fluctuating postpartum hormones. That does not excuse ignoring medical warnings or failing to feed the baby. But I do wonder whether postpartum mental illness, extreme denial, or an irrational fixation on breastfeeding affected her judgment and factored into the probation sentence. Wanting to understand how this happened is not the same as absolving her.
