Could Alberta separatism backfire?

I could see Trump wanting them independent.
But they are less liberal than most provinces but probably are liberal according to US politics.
What if Trump keeps them at arms length, but then the next prog president adds them as the 51st and they are blue.
Am I completely off? Is there a way to permanently make them a territory?

It seems very unlikely that Alberta will separate from Canada. There are multiple hurdles to clear and they get progressively more difficult, including, I believe, a constitutional amendment.

Actually the province is quite conservative. Danielle Smith- the Premier- is a Canadian version of DeSantis. She says she would like to remain in Canada though She has advanced a process to let the voters decide. Danielle has made her disdain for the let-wing Ottawa govt well known.

There is no universe where the US should add them as a state
Would be a disaster for Republicans.
They would vote for Democrats (moderate ones, at least) the vast majority of the time.
While they are conservative by Canada standards, they are liberal by US standards. Kamala, for instance, would have won Alberta by several points

frick Canada. Don’t need them. Don’t want them. Conservative for Canada is socialism. Most of those people have it ingrained in their minds that the government should take care of you. To the left of them are a bunch of commies or commie wanna be’s. We got enough problems with those lunatics already without adding a Canadian Provence full of people running from Communism but desiring socialism. frick all that. Take their oil. Leave everything else.

And that is exactly why I’m asking. The next progressive president might try to add it as well as packed the court,
Not saying they will do it, but they may try.

This is what I worry about in this case. There are options like take them as a territory or let them form an independent country under the protection of the USA.

The people I know who live in British Columbia are not Republicans. They are wealthy progressives who love the city and countryside. If they were to become an American state, you would get two democrat senators and probably all but one Democrat representative. Saskatchewan and Manitoba might be Republican states.
