Well between yourself and Roger, what else is there to possibly know? You two have enough knowledge and expertise for all of us.

We need rare minerals for our national security. They are vital. If we have to kill some rebels to get it, then so be it.

Form the United States East Africa Company and go to town.

China has had a foothold in Congo for years. They’re all over the place there. Kabila gave them access to the copper and cobalt in exchange for some road construction back around 2008. And Chinese operate illegal mines all over.
Congo is a mess, it would be unwise to be there militarily. It’s been a regional conflict involving Rwanda and Uganda going back to the 90s. The Congo military is a joke and the US would be doing everything.

It’s just a desperate attempt by Congos president to get us to defeat M23 for him and get his hands on mining revenues. It’s an on and off 30 year long war with some of the most horrific shite that tops what we’ve seen in the Middle East in the same time frame.
We already get a bunch of minerals from Congo….they’re basically just conflict minerals from rebels that are smuggled through Rwanda….which is wrong also of course.

Yeah it's enough, but is society able to survive what we'd have to do to make that work?

Three questions come to mind:
Has the prospect been verified at 24 trillion.
What infrastructure would be required to successfully exploit the prospect.
Who’s on the right side of their war.

M23 is entirely Rwanda backed, who in turn relies on western aid and economic support.
We can get a deal done without a major troop present.

Uh, yes it is.
And it's also enough to keep China out.

Give us the $24T first and we'll see what we can do.
