he marketers are years ahead on this. Almost no one is going to pay for a-la-carte’ services. Why do you think you cannot buy individual cable channels?
Right now TV companies contractually prevent anyone from offering a-la-carte. Not sure where you are going with this.

it has dropped its promise about not instituting paid prioritization.
If no one wants to pay for the faster service, that's okay, too.
Look at this thread and notice that the 'big government is better' crowd (I'm looking at you, Lakeboy) is complaining about freeing the internet from government regulations.
That should tell you all you need to know....

We actually had people on this board who call themselves conservatives stretch and contort themselves as so far to defend a complete rancid piece of shite like Comcast in their zeal to "trigger liberals" and trash NN.
I was legit embarrassed for them.
Comcast is lower than dog shite and deserves no absolutely no benefit of the doubt at all.

Just do some quick googling. The contracts will have requirements like one channel has to be offered in the same package as 3 other channels from the same media company.
There is a whole FCC investigation into these requirements.

Yep, it's shooting oneself in the foot simply because they feel the other side is against it.

I wonder if the internet will really be faster or if they're just going to slow down everyone who doesn't sign up?

So you can't or won't elaborate on how it is relative to NN?

To force cable companies to pickup channels people don't want.
This is not a NN topic. Why the tangent?

So no to a free market then?

quote:I never understood the liberal mentality of business being bad for the consumer while government is good.
I’m still just in shock that people are dumb enough to think that anything Comcast wants is going to be good. Believing Comcast is up to something good like believing the same about Ted Bundy.
Comcast cannot take away your freedom and imprison you if you break one of its rules. It cannot force you to pay them more money than what you're (voluntarily) contractually obligated to pay. Comcast cannot show up to your door with a gun drawn at you and demand anything of you. The government, however, can do these things.
There is incentive for Comcast to do right by the consumers because of competition. They need to make us happy and give us stuff we want at a good price or else we bail and go elsewhere and they lose money. They want to make as much money as possible and that requires us to volunteer our money for their services over the services of their competitors. If I break their rules, they cancel my subscription and I have to go elsewhere.
The government is a monopoly. If I don't like how it spends my tax dollars, I can't stop paying. I can't give my money to another government instead. It's possible that I could never have a government that represents how I think and what I want, yet I am required to give them my money and play by their rules, even if I don't need everything it offers. If I break their rules, the government can take me by force and lock me away, depriving me of my liberty or even my life.
Comcast has an infinitely small amount of power and influence over my life than the government, yet many here would rather have the incompetence and corruption of an unaccountable federal government have more power over everything than a corporation that has incentive to treat me fairly. I just don't get it.
