That's the NY Times headline, but what exactly does that mean? Trump paid the skanks off becasuse the stories were intentionally timed to derail his presidential bid.
So he paid them to go away. IMO the NY Times is making it sound a lot more nefarious than it is.
If he used camaign funds to pay them, then I get that it's a big deal. Otherwise, what exactly is the crime here?

Michael D. Cohen, President Trump’s former fixer, pleaded guilty on Tuesday to breaking campaign finance laws and other charges. He made the extraordinary admission that he arranged payments to two women “at the direction of the candidate,” referring to Mr. Trump, to secure their silence about affairs they said they had with Mr. Trump.
Mr. Cohen told a judge in United States District Court in Manhattan that the payments were “for the principal purpose of influencing the election” for president in 2016.
Mr. Cohen also pleaded guilty to multiple counts of tax evasion and bank fraud, bringing to a close a monthslong investigation by Manhattan federal prosecutors who examined his personal business dealings and his role in helping to arrange financial deals with women connected to Mr. Trump.

Would they both be guilty of blackmail? I believe that is still illegal.

That's exactly, word for word, what he was told to say by the Mueller team to create as much disinformation and chaos as possible.

Everyone that has ever given money to a campaign did it to influence the election.

Seems like an odd inclusion. The women were trying to influence the election. Cohen merely paid them not to.
Let's be real here. Even if these things had come out prior to the election, the result would have been the same. No one cares if Trump did or didn't sleep with these two women. This had no effect on the election.

This is what im thinking. Im confused on why that quote is significant at all to the special counsil. Paying off stormy = colluding with russians?

So Trump told Cohen to commit a felony?

Cohen is a sideshow. Cohen made a deal to say anything to save his arse. Why did Mueller dump this on US Attorney's in Manhattan if this was anything.
Cohen is a liar, a tax cheat, illegally taped conversations, and hired a scum democrat/Clinton lawyer. He'll have his own show on CNN by the end of the week.

I voted for Trump for the principal purpose of influencing the election.
I encouraged others to vote for Trump for the principal purpose of influencing the election.

How is it news that a billionaire used his own money to pay chicks to be quiet. Where is the relation to campaign funds coming from?

This is one of the biggest "nothing burgers"! Even if true, it's a 5 figure fine and no jail time. It's great talking points for media and dumbass libs but it amounts to nothing.

So what.. doing things to influence elections has been going on for years..
For example: Someone in Chicago running for office handing out hundred dollar bills to all of the church member as they leave to "help" them with their bills is NOT trying to influence an election?
What about stopping by and picking up people to drive them to the polls so they can vote, how is that not trying to influence the election?
Buying TV ads by PAC groups is trying to influence the election
Sure anyone who's running for office is trying to do things to influence the election, to think otherwise is just plain dumb.

But most people try, you know, not to violate federal law.

So we got Michael Cohen, Lanny Davis - former Clinton #1 guy, and the NYT.
Yep, this story will be spun worse than an out-of-balance washing machine.
