And you people are celebrating the erosion of one of the cornerstones of democratic governance. Shame on you.
Are you a writer for CNN?
the old lever of power is ineffective and we don't have our hand on the new one yet is how I read this

A press corp? Seriously, isn't a fricking cornerstone of democratic governance.
How not?
You do realize that the burden of proof is on you and not me in this discussion right? But to help foster discussion, if you wanted to say the press in general and not the press corp was an essential part of governance (note the lack of democratic) I would be inclined to agree with you. Democracy can and has worked in a time when there was no press (see the Greeks/Romans).
Now you placed an extra burden of proof on the press corp and that is that they are a cornerstone. When I think of a cornerstone I think of something that is so integral and a part of something that removing it would render the full useless or destroyed (think a plane without wings, human without a heart or brain, gun without a trigger). To me the cornerstones of democratic governance are the ability for the people to vote, those that are voted in doing the will of the people, and an avenue for the people to change those who are are voted in.
With all of that said, per the requirements that you put in and with the definitions layed out before you. A press corp cannot be a cornerstone of democratic governance.

Trump should respond that he didn't want his dinner plans leaked to Donna Brazile.

Lol. They act like they're doing a service for the American people. Yeah cnn, your "trump promotes white supremacist " stories are REALLY helpful

I also think somebody should tell you guys that because you're fricking nuts celebrating the decline of the press.
The decline of the press. Now there's an interesting topic. Hey James, if you wanna know why the press is in decline, look in the fricking mirror. Your job is to REPORT THE frickING NEWS! Maybe you bastards should try that for a change instead of creating the god damn news. Go drag a dollar bill through a trailer park and STFU!

Jennifer Palmieri has this message to the press:
quote:
1/2 I recommend all media covering Trump read "True Believer" by Eric Hoffer. It is about mass movements & rise of authoritarian leaders.
2/2 It was written in 1951. I hope what's described doesnt come to fruition now. But all covering him should have this book in mind.

I've already explained that he hasn't even assembled a press corp yet, which is a reversal of modern presidential norms. It isn't about the dinner, and this line of argumentation is intellectually dishonest.
When did Obama assemble his press corp? I'm legitimately curious as I've done a cursory google search but am unable to find the answer. I see where he held a press conference 3 days after his election but that doesn't necessarily mean he had assembled his press corp yet.

CNN doesn't have people inside the transition team. That much is clear.

Why would he invite the network that leaked debate question to the bitch??

quote:What about the well-established norms of the press actually being honest, objective and non-biased?
the behavior breaks with well-established norms governing a president's relationship with the press corps.
What about that norm?

The press have themselves to blame.
And you and I will pay the price.
Can you honestly say the press honestly vetted Obama before the campaign or during his presidency?

Why would he invite the network that leaked debate question to the bitch??
