For drinking on the job and taking prescription Ambien. I assume this guys job is 24/7 so he takes what little time off he can get.

My question is: Who here has a job where they are "allowed" to drink on the job. Those who are forbidden to do so, have you ever?

I see this becoming more normalized with many jobs shifting to work from home.

I think the issue there is when he's on an official trip with the President, he has to be ready at all times. Drinking and taking Ambien would seem to call his readiness into question.

The probe concluded that Jackson violated the policy of the White House Medical Office "by drinking a beer while on a presidential trip to Bariloche, Argentina" and that he "took Ambien during official travel, raising concerns about his potential incapacity to provide proper medical care during this travel."

So was this one instance of him having a single beer, and then a separate complaint that he took Ambien on trips? Or that he took Ambien while drinking that one beer? Obviously one of those is worse than the other.

Either way, I find it hilarious that the article implies that the POTUS only travels with one doctor, and that that single WH physician is the only person responsible for the President's health 24/7 . He travels with a full medical staff at all times and there is at least one additional medical team on the ground anytime he travels internationally. POTUS' health is not in jeopardy because one of his doctors took a pill to sleep on the plane, or had a beer at dinner. The official WH physician is largely a figurehead.

ETA: Of course if he violated policy then that's on him. But the pearl clutching is getting exhausting. My pearls are already so clutched from Le Insurrection and Governor Wheels lifting his mask mandate that I cannot grasp my pearls any tighter today

Add in some Xanax, and you’ve got yourself a party.

Actually, ambien and xanax is my nightly go-to for getting to sleep. I can usually only get about 6 hours a night, so I’ve got to make them count. Tossing and turning, waiting for my body to get sleepy on its own is not an option.

If you only listened or watched the mainstream news media, you would swear that the "Capitol Insurrection" was on par with the storming of the Bastille or the Russian Revolution. Seriously, the reaction could not be more needlessly dramatic.

Not sure. I was wondering the same thing.

Agreed that the whole thing is being overblown. I mean, if he violated Navy/WH Medical Office policy, let them do what they need to do. But at the end of the day, this is just something to fill headlines.

I haven't had a job where I was not allowed a drink or two while wrapping up the day since 1998. Every job I have had since then either my boss, me, or both have had bourbon in our offices.

We drink a few at lunch sometimes. Bosses wife will put some beer in the fridge occasionally also. Fry some fish couple times a year at the office and we bust out some bourbon at lunch.

I could easily drink while working.
I only do it about 2 times per year though.
