America is apparently a treeless land in Chris Matthew’s eyes. I guess when you only spend time in big cities you may think that.

If it doesn't have Yellawood on the tag, you don't want it.

I think at this point to call Chris Matthews either an idiot or moron would in fact be an insult to both idiots and morons.

And how about Ole Joe and his slam piece Meka sitting there nodding along as he spouts this absurdly stupid bullshite?

I use a LOT of lumber personally. Almost exclusively hardwood. I have a guy that operates a sawmill and I get 8/4 cherry (2") for $2 a board foot. Go towards Dallas and they want $7 a board foot.

I just got a big bandsaw delivered yesterday, so I'm going to do some rough milling of white oak and walnut from here on my land.

The stuff we get from Canada is almost all SPF (spruce, pine, fir) software framing lumber.

It’s not just about quantity it’s about the quality of wood.

Canadian lumber is better than American lumber. Canadian trees grow slower because of the temperature and makes it tighter and denser.

Advantages of Canadian government owning the timber is it is cheaper. Private companies would charge more to make it profitable. Canadian government is forced to take better care of their forests than private American land owners.

Canadian lumber is the preferred wood for building homes. Tariffs on Canadian wood would make the price of new homes to go up

Yes, their SPF is great framing lumber. Strong and lightweight. But that's about all it's good for is framing.

Make Baltic Birch plywood great again. If you know about Baltic Birch, you'd agree.

I was working on an international paper audit probably 10-15 years ago and was surprised when the controller said they produce more trees than they consume. But driving through most of MS and SELA, you realize it’s mostly thick pine forests. NW FL was long considered too heavily wooded for development. Yes, there are large costs in ramping up production and logistical concerns, but to act as if we cannot produce more lumber is downright silly. Particularly if the substitute is coming from well within Canada

And I like how one of the examples this idiot in the OP used was paper for newspapers. When journalists are spitting garbage like he was, why would you even want to write it down?

For hardwoods, heavily forested lumber us of higher quality than sparsely forested. Not as many branches equals fewer knots which turns a Common grade to a FAS (first and second).

My dad worked for the US Forest Service for 35 years doing timber appraisal and logging and I run a professional level (but private) woodworking shop.

No, Chris. We'll continue importing it from South American rain forest nations that are cutting down entire rain forest to create pasture land for the cattle that they also sell to the US.

Isn't it amazing? The leftist cardinal sins of mass animal farming and deforestation combined, and the Left says absolutely NOTHING about it. Orange Man Bad.

I used to buy a lot of framing lumber. "Losing" Canada would definitely be an issue.

I get the wood part to try to find as a scare tactic, but did this MFr really add in "news ink for our newspapers"??
