China has enough cutting-edge ballistic missile technology to destroy the United States' Western Pacific Navy fleets and military bases in a matter of "hours", a report from the University of Sydney said on Monday.
The US no longer "enjoys military primacy" in the Indo-Pacific and has an "uncertain" capacity to keep a "favourable balance of power", the report from the University's United States Studies Centre said.
Beijing could quickly topple US forces "particularly around Taiwan, the Japanese archipelago or maritime Southeast Asia" before Washington could respond, authors Ashley Townshend, Matilda Steward and Brendan Thomas-Noone warned.
The report also revealed shocking estimates of the People's Liberation Army Rocket Force using figures from the International Institute for Strategic Studies, stating that China possessed up to 1,500 short-range ballistic missile, 450 medium-range, 160 intermediate-range and hundreds of long-range cruise missiles, allowing Beijing launch precision strikes from mainland Singapore, potentially crippling the US's large logistics factory as well as primary bases in South Korea and Japan.
China's DF-21D "carrier killer" can also destroy US aircraft carriers from up to 1,500km away, or 932 miles.
America's military capacity, which once stood at 80 percent of global defence spending in 1995, now stood at 52 percent, the report noted.

Ahhhh...now we found what this is about

So we wouldn't see them scrambling their missiles? And would have no response whatsoever?

Our military has shite we have no idea about. Fricking laser beams on sharks heads that shoot missiles down
Posted on 8/20/19 at 10:41 am to cajuncarguy
What a bunch of garbage

Can their super duper missiles stop the thousands of nuclear warheads we would send their way for round 2?

If only the US had these little spy thingys floating in space over China that would detect any launch and had some thingys that could intercept the Chinese missles.

Thanks Hillary and bill

Remember the 90s when de facto Chinese agents occupied both the East and West Wings of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue?
Lots of naysayers said it wasn't dangerous. I said it was. I was right.
Flash forward 25 years and giving them a 20-year boost in their strategic weapons technology (for cash, BTW) doesn't seem to have been all that wise a move, now, does it?

The Reds have been working on those hypersonic missiles - Mach 5 like a space shuttle re-entering. We would have 3 to 5 minutes response time.
Nothing can respond that fast, frankly.

Another reason why I don’t even want a trade deal with them. Even if it crippled us for a bit, I believe we should end all trade on China and bankrupt those frickers like we did the USSR

Yep. Bankrupting the Soviets is what ended the Cold War.
We shouldn't be sending one dollar to China in trade.

Saudi Arabia sure doesn’t get a whole lot of bang for its buck

Where did they steal this technology from or was it given to them? I am looking at your Bill and Hillary.

Seems like a pretty damning indictment of our defense industry that we spend north of 600 billion and could get wiped out by a country spending a third of that.
Sounds like more money is the solution.
