Yes, they are the source of most Rare Earths, in the US, it's really expensive to produce them... because they are crazy toxic and require all sorts of filtration and safety.
In China they get a bunch of Uighurs to burn them in open vats... way cheaper.

There is zero chance it costs 6 Million to train much less make.
This has the Chinese government's fingers all over it. It's obviously leveraging a ton of WuDao development.
Even assuming that, FP8 has not been proven to be nearly as efficient as they are claiming while still preserving reasonable accuracy, Maybe they made it work, but that would be ground breaking.
That said it's still really good, but when you use 14 Trillion Parameters you should be really good.

The USA is not designed for High Speed rail, China is entirely mega-cities, tons of empty buildings that no one uses. Their population is shrinking their megacities are cement cubicals with some Dubai inspired ego projects.
