F them. We have our own, we just need to start digging it up.
Plus, why can't we figure out how to extract it from all the waste in our landfills?

CCP would always be able to pull this card. Always.
That would pretty much always put CCP in the driver’s seat if push came to shove. Now and in the future. Way after DJT has exited the stage.
Is this a good spot for the U.S. to be/remain?

All this does is solidify one my acceptable reasons for the tariffs. No good reason we shouldn’t be able to mine these at a competitive rate.. doesn’t mean we shouldn’t buy from china but relying on them is a huge problem.

For the most part we can get all REMs elsewhere including here. And we bought theirs to not use up all ours and others.

China proving how beholden to them we are will only demonstrate how necessary this trade war is.
China is making the case against them for Trump better than Trump ever could.

So Trump exempts some products and China responds with this?

China is like the trashy girlfriend trying to fight with the wealthy guy. Threatening to cut ties doesn’t really go too far. Sure the sex is good but is it worth all the bs?

It’s based on what the administration is calling 232s. I asked grok to explain it:
In trade negotiations, "232s" refer to Section 232 of the Trade Expansion Act of 1962 in the United States. This section authorizes the President to adjust imports of goods or materials from other countries through tariffs or other measures if those imports are deemed to threaten national security. The Department of Commerce typically conducts investigations to assess the impact of imports, and the President can impose tariffs or quotas based on the findings. For example, Section 232 was used in 2018 to impose tariffs on steel and aluminum imports, citing national security concerns.[](LINK [](LINK

Oh no! What do we do now???!!!
Funniest outcome would be if we start doing exactly what China does to get their hands on export controlled tech. Just send it thru a third party country until we work out a deal to get it from somewhere else.

I thought the US didn’t and couldn’t manufacture the electronics that need rare earth minerals?
It can’t be both ways. Which one is it?

We have rare earth metals they aren’t rare but we became so dependent on China that we thought it was better for China to have control of all the processing plants
