Do you see this as a good thing? To not have any trade allies?

I see this as recognizing reality, and yes, it is absolutely a good thing. Forcing our good buddy pals to not break it off in our arse when we do business together is a great thing. Access to our consumer market is a privilege, not a right, and among "allies" and "trade partners" should include our access to their markets.

Any entity or country losing their shite over the US matching the taxes and fees they put on US goods coming into their countries, is no ally.

The kid lost his friends at school when he repeatedly acted like an a-hole. But his parents told him that it was a good thing, and better for him to know who wasn’t his friend anymore. Better to be alone. Who needs friends anyway.

You're equating kids on a playground and international trade worth trillions of dollars.

Crazy world we live in now. when obviously childish behavior applies to US international trade and politics.

Pretending that all trade deficits are inherently “unfair” is childish.

Calling world leaders little derogatory names is childish.

Trump considers international trade deals that HE previously negotiated “unfair”.

There has been a real shift it attitudes. All of these countries see the US as untrustworthy now. It’s childish to act like this.

What would that childish behavior be? Allowing countries access to our markets at comparatively no cost? Or deciding that other countries should allow US companies access to their markets, since we allow them access to ours? Childish? No. Business.

That isn't what is happening. Acknowledging that we wouldn't have such large trade deficits if US producers were allowed access to the markets without having it throttled by tariffs and fees are what is happening. Business.

I'll give you that, but it's not as if the rest of the world or domestic leftists have exactly taken the high road here.

I agree that being wary of China is, and should be a top priority. They have been taking advantage of everything they can, to an extreme level.

Pissing in your allies’ faces hurts your ability to maintain coalitions to counter China. Even if they aren’t perfect, the EU is important in that regard. Not anymore it would seem.

The EU has been a principal violator of protectionist tariffs since its creation. If they wanted to be considered as, and treated like an ally, they wouldn't tax the dogshit out of US goods coming into their country. If what we are doing now is pissing in their faces, what do you consider it is they have been doing to us for the last 50 years?

I suspect, if the EU and China make that deal, we will stop bombing the Houthi and instead start selling them rockets.

The U.S. consumer market is larger than the EU, China, Canada and Mexico combined. These countries have to have access to our markets to survive.

Well no shite. What was expected here? The world is a huge market. It would be stupid not to pursue any and all avenues.

No. I think we should try to foster that relationship, but not at the kind of expense it has taken to do business with the EU and China.
