No... they don't want guns!

The Chicago suburb of Deerfield, Illinois, is giving residents 60 days to get rid of their “assault weapons” and “high capacity” magazines and empowering the police chief to confiscate them from those who refuse to give them up.
Deerfield previously allowed ownership of such firearms and magazines but had strict storage requirements in place for them. Now, the firearms and magazines will be illegal to posses in one’s home, even if properly stored.

The Chicago Tribune reports the “new ordinance prohibits the possession, sale and manufacturing of certain types of assault weapons and large capacity magazines within the village.” Those in violation of the ordinance will face fines of $250 to $1,000 a day.

So basically...government is using gun registrations against law abiding citizens and forcing them to get rid of guns they legally own?

I don't think the rights of a suburb, are protected by The Constitution.
I don't think a suburb is even mentioned.

Starting to get a bit concerned seeing all these confiscatory policies popping up.

Someone will sue the city to get this law overturned but then they will have to sue the police to get their guns back. Unfortunately the police will have "lost" whatever guns they confiscated by then.

They don't understand that a right is a right.

A single city can't just take rights away. shite would be like if some city decided that women aren't allowed to vote in their local elections.. or if they decided that black people aren't allowed to vote.

Perhaps getting this case into a courtroom is precisely why they're doing it?

Other poster says SCOTUS already ruled in favor of a similar law in MD...unfamiliar so maybe it's the same thing and this has already been settled.

Deerfield is a rich, white community. Those people might just pay the fines.

and how does the Police know who has the guns? They had to register them in Illinois. Registration leads to confiscation...
