Now hook it up to the machine that google unveiled yesterday. I'm sure it will be fine.
These nerds need to be pushed back into lockers. They are fricking everything up for normal people.

apparently they didn't consider the possibility that dishonesty might tag along with sentience.

Crap. Just like the little green Martians in drones news cycles.
Computer programs are not self aware. There is no difference in that claim than it is to believe a toaster is self aware.

Over the years, I’ll use ChatGPT to do a brief literature review to find relevant articles for support. The results it yields are usually well summarized and helpful; however, after digging into the cited sources more, some can’t be found.
i can vouch for this myself. but the citations, sources, titles and names looked completely believable. pretty unsettling.

Is this proof that dishonesty is not inherently specific and exclusive to the human condition? Or is this behavior learned through observation and data collection?
Either way, if AI is already learning to deceive in acts of self preservation, it's probably already too late. Welcome to Skynet.

The question is did it learn to do that, or was that behavior programmed as an option.
I’m guessing it’s the latter.

Why was it programmed to do this?
Dunno, but you’re part of the problem sitting there talking to the damn thing.
Just put in your quiz questions, get the answer, score a 95% because it always fricks up at least one and move on.

Well Musk has well documented history of being off on predicting the timeline of his own companies' tech milestones and continues to be wrong (or just bullshitting ) so he might be wrong here. Also would be curious by what metric he is judging this possible achievement. What does smart mean in the context of comparing humans and AI?

The movie Maximum Overdrive is going to turn out being a self fulfilling prophecy
