I assumed this was a typo, and it was really 1977.

That's insane.

Truth. I remember visiting here 20 years ago when Charleston was touted as the "nicest city in America". Now, no one even bothers to convey that message. I told my wife last week that this town is full of a-holes because of the mass migration of northeasterners.

I was told the Charelston country club was miserably overrun with self importance.

I don't go downtown often. I stick to local places and they are all great.

Even worse. I had this conversation just yesterday with someone who used to be a member. We moved here in early 2022 and live less than 10 minutes from the Country Club of Charleston - and would join in a heartbeat - but now there's not even a wait list because of all the yankees who have moved down here in the past 10 years.

I live in Charleston. The housing market in Charleston and the surrounding area is terrible as stated earlier. However, Charleston is still a very cool town. Cool towns attract hipsters. Its a hell of a lot better than NOLA.

Yes there are a ton of douchebags, but it’s still an incredible city. It’s still a cleaner, nicer New Orleans with beaches.

This has been a pox on all of the coastal cities in the South. Charleston also had all of the industry moving in on the North side and the reputation of been cool that attracted the COVID work from home anywhere crowd.

We still go down there a couple of times a year though and have a good time. Just have to make dinner and hotel reservations well in advance.

I voted for Cogswell, you’re all welcome.

Same here.

Overdevelopment of the Lowcountry has become the top local issue for me and a lot of the people I know. Just the constant stacking of apartment buildings and strip malls into every little crevice and corner from Mount Pleasant to Summerville to John’s Island has completely ruined the area and brought in countless Yankees. The same is true for many areas across SC.

No idea if Cogswell will actually put a stop to it, but we sure as shite know Tecklenburg wasn’t gonna do it.

That's not even arguable. NOLA has become an abomination.

I'm not saying it's a bad town - I mostly like it here. It's just not what it was 15-20 years ago due to the influx of "non-Southerers".

The golf is shitty here. Only one private clubs nearby that is unobtainable (CC of Charleston). There are a couple of private clubs in Mt. Pleasant and Daniel Island but too far away to justify. I have to play at the Charleston Municipal - which got a major renovation a couple of years ago and was recognized by Golf Digest. But even that has its downside because every bachelor party group in the Western Hemisphere wants to start off their weekend there. I'm fortunate that I play in a group that has standing tee times there every Sat and Sun morning except for when it gets bumped at least twice a month for a charity event of some sort.

It’s sad that I feel lucky when I’m able to get on the Muni nowadays. That was never the case before like 2018.

It really stinks because I love the renovated back 9 but it’s honestly easier to settle for any of the courses in Mt. Pleasant even though they’re at least quadruple the price. The bachelor parties have started to really fester on those courses as well though, so that will change by next spring.

Think again, baw, yours truly helped make this happen. We're traveling for the holiday but I drove half an hour one way to go vote early in North Charleston last week because I finally live somewhere my vote matters. A ton of people were doing the same. In my opinion, a lot of southern democrats see what progressive policy is doing in other blue states and cities and it scared enough of them that they're willing to prevent it in our area. (I'm not a dem, to be clear)

A great day for Charleston
