You say the 82nd is preparing to deploy... your quoted article says the Pentagon is preparing plans.

If you thought this wouldn’t result in boots on the ground then you are retarded.

Senior military commanders have submitted specific requests aimed at preparing for such an option as President Trump weighs moves in the U.S.-Israel-led conflict with Iran, the sources said.

Do people not realize that the military is literally always doing this? It doesn't mean shite.

My boys huh? AATW

Wonder which Regiment is on RDF 1?

Meh, we're always the first to go.

I'm seriously doubting that he's going to drop a Brigade of sky gods in at this point, especially to do any door kicking.

Doesn't make sense.

This seems more like a threat, saber rattling, unless there's a remote outpost of IRGCs holed up somewhere with a whole bunch of civilian hostages and he's thinking about sending in an ABCT to take the place.

I don't trust any of this unnamed sources bullshite.

They should be fired if they aren't making plans. Entire staffs exist to do nothing else. Doesn't mean deployment.

We have a pretty good idea they will attack the soldiers, which will necessitate more soldiers, and then it's very likely chaos and sectarian violence begin, which wouldn't be good.

So you are a General now?

Every military interaction since then in that part of the world has just been the same set of wrong choices and absurdly predictable consequences.

Iraq I wasn't like that. We kicked arse and got out in short order. Trump seems to be following Iraq I instead of Iraq/Afghanistan, but people can't see past the 20 year war. It's all they can focus on.

We've had several conflicts where we fought for a short time since WWII, but those are always ignored. The comparison is always to Iraq/Afghanistan simply because it provides the greatest talking point.

That's why there is never any consideration for anything but a long drawn out war from those against the conflict. It would ruin their only argument.

Plus, as everyone knows, if something happened one way before, then it will always happen that way again no matter how many variables are involved or how many times it didn't happen in the past. It's science.

We did SUCH a good job that we had to go back ten years later. Woohoo.

Spot on. We’re breaking stuff and killing people, but it won’t accomplish anything long term so we’ll just have to go back and do it over and over again. Or waste 20 years on the ground.

Oh you’re right. I should heap praises on our prowess in Grenada and Panama. Both of which were only “short” because the nations we were invading were so overmatched that our terrible planning and performance was immaterial. Those were both shite shows, just short ones.

Correct, actually. This region of the world is a total shithole quagmire and every powerful nation in recorded history that’s tried to change that has done nothing more than waste time, lives, and resources.

The funny part is how fricking bad the CIA is at things and how it's clear in hindsight they're reacting to each fire and trying to put them out, but people try to connect these dots post hoc to make the CIA this incredible boogeyman who perfectly creates these mass conspiracies over decades.

They have and have always been a criminal enterprise.

I just hope they can finish up and get back home for the Midterm elections. We are going to need them here.
