Reducing deficits is not the same as reducing the debt. In you decrease projected deficits by 2.5 trillion the debt will still grow by 15 trillion or so.

Do trade deficits have affect the debt?

That is excellent news. Especially since the same CBO just said that Trump's BBB would increase deficits by $2.4 trillion over the next decade. IIRC a bill has to be revenue neutral using CBO estimates in order to use the reconciliation pathway. If the Senate and House republicans were smart (they are not smart and a lot are bought are paid for by the Chamber of Commerce f**ks who have been selling out the USA for the past 50 years so this will likely not happen) they would amend the BBB to enshrine the tariffs into the bill. That would make the bill revenue neutral according to the CBO estimates and end any stupid legal challenges from the left against his tariffs.

What about the case where it's multiple US retailers selling Chinese manufactured goods, and it's that competition that sets price because there are no US-based manufacturing options?

Isn't that a common scenario?
Could be. Just can't see that price being rock bottom.

Or you're just a douchebag who buys tons of Chinese stuff but wants to shite on a guy for supplying it.
Not shiteing on anyone just pointing out that a T-shirt that costs me $10 bucks is made in China for a buck. Someone is profiting that $9. The tariff fee can come out of that profit. Don't buy into the fear mongering.

Why do you assume that the $9 difference is all profit?

That 70+% duty was zero before Trump? What product is that?

You could tell me this is straight from r/FeelTheBern and i'd believe you. "Greedy capitalist, you don't need all that profit"

Correct. It was zero before Trump. It's a specialized steel product not raw steel and no it isn't made here in America.

I'm not fear mongering, we're just discussing the impacts. If some of those impacts are negative it's not "fear mongering" to discuss them.

That's wild. I assume it's that high because it's from China?

I suspect that goods will start getting produced in countries with lower tariffs. It would be silly for a country with low wages not to try and undercut China. Even if it's not America.

Are you expecting that your prices will go up to match the duty, or will you eat some of it? And same question to your consumers since I'm guessing yours isn't the finished product.

Passing that tax on to consumers will jaut make them buy less, leading to tariffed countries to eat the tarriff if they want to actually sell products.

Bingo. For most manufactured goods, this will be the case.

Not entirely Trump's steel and aluminum tariffs are global.

I'm having to eat some of it but trying to pass along as much as I can. If my customers don't buy at the new higher prices I could end up going out of business.

Good luck man. For most of us, this is a medium to long-term outlook. Clearly it's a more immediate concern to you.

Too bad RINOs are refusing to cut entitlements to help us out even further.
