As an adult in the middle of the 60s turmoil I would say the biggest difference in the left then as opposed to now deals with free speech.
The left were the champions of free speech. Most colleges created free speech spaces in courtyards or quadrangles. Anyone could express their opinion. Nobody had to listen but nobody condemned you for speaking.
Now, it's the exact opposite. The left is for censorship just like the Nazis. They are not interested in a debate.

No,I think it's generational. The leftists who espoused free speech in the 60s still do. They are getting shouted down by the younger generation of leftists who hate free speech. That's why so many older leftist professors are losing their jobs because they dare to voice an opinion that doesn't tow the line.
